I know most just use mi-fi or tethering to get onto the internet and thats fine but I know Thom and use close to 5gb now and that is just doing stuff on the phone. If we add anything else in there like the laptop(s) I know it will jump. So the questions are:
Who uses satellite for the internet?
Which company do you use?
How well does it do in different areas?
Since we are not concerned with keeping up with any TV shows (we could not even tell you what is on or when a show is on) or sports we won't be spending money on satellite tv so that money will be used for the internet instead.
Unless it is more adventagous to get a satellite dish or some sort for both.
This is the information I have at the moment and are there any other companies:

(Our cell phone company is Verizon and as of right now we still have the unlimited, no contract and the 15% for military/veteran discount)

So you have unlimited date on your phone, Take advantage of it as long as you can. Modern smart phones can become a hot spot for up to 7 devices at a time. More than enough for almost any RVer.

I don't know where you found this link; it is totally out of date.
Here's a webpage developed by a full-timer who is current on a broad range of technologies and doesn't make any money by selling any of them. After you've read his material I think most of your questions will be answered. http://www.jackdanmayer.com/communication.htm

We have I guess what you call the 1st gen droids. No tethering with them so we would have to change phones. We may do that, just buy them outright and changing them that way would not change the contract. Well it usually doesn't but you never know, they may change the rules so I am just trying to get some info on other ways to connect.

Upgraded a couple months ago. Only thing I lost was my free hotsot. Still have unlimited internet. And of course a two year commitment. Only other option is a myfi box. But then you are back to a new plan and limited connection.

If all you are concerned about is using more than 5GB per month, why not go with Millenicom's Advanced Plan that uses the Verizon network, but you get 20GB for $59.99...no contracts, no taxes.
