What internet speed check site do you all use for checking your internet speed?

Thanks,

Ron

If my speed check is correct from that site, then I'm sure not getting the speed that I am paying for from Verizon.

The speed is dependent on the signal strength at the site you are testing from. Congestion also makes a big difference. During March in Tempe, AZ, I had just a few hundred Kb/sec down and only 50 Kb/sec or less up. During April the speeds went up to near normal EVDO speeds when everyone left. Very poor speeds when we were in New York City.

We NEVER get the promised speed.

The fine print states "up to X speed".

VZ promised me 35gb, but I never get over 20gb on my FiOS.

I get a faster speed from this site

Dual Bandwidth Speed Test (upload and download speed test)

It registers closer to what I'm paying for, but they might be lying.

If you are using a wireless router your connection speed will be less. I didn't believe that until the FiOS installer had me plug my notebook right into it. Then my 30meg actually got 33. No slight of hand either, I worked with him for years.

I'm using a wireless router

:::.. testmy.net test results ..:::
Download Connection is:: 24540 Kbps about 24.54 Mbps (tested with 5.8 MB)
Download Speed is:: 2996 kB/s or 3 MB/s
Upload Connection is:: 11736 Kbps about 11.7 Mbps (tested with 5.8 MB)
Upload Speed is:: 1433 kB/s or 1.4 MB/s
Tested From:: Broadband Speed Test (Dallas, TX USA)
Test Time:: 2010-12-03 07:02:15 GMT -7
Validation:: Speed Test Stats for test ID Z39H7WYFV
User Agent:: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 5.1; Trident/4.0; YComp 5.0.0.0; .NET CLR 1.0.3705; .NET CLR 1.1.4322) [!]

This test from, testmy.net, matches close to what I'm supposed to get, but from Speedtest.net I'm getting below 10 down and 4 up

I also used the optimizer to increase my speed.

Ron

PS
How do I enable smiles? I can't seem to get them to work anymore in my postings.

Thanks

Well I was going to get an N but he didn't have on on the truck so I was stuck with the G. Free with the install so I can't look a gift horse in the mouth. Might have to call in a trouble report when we get home

Right now we are on the road and tethered to our Droids. Today seems to be a slow day for mine.

BTW Verizon will let you suspend your FiOS for up to six months. Great for snow birding. Directv will do the same so that works for mobile TV.

Send a message via Skype™ to Dr4Film
Anytime you use an Ethernet cable hooked directly to your router, it will always give you a faster connection speed than using the wireless feature of your PC to the router.

Convenience does come at a cost.

Has anyone tried the Clearwire 4/g mifi service. The salesman claims that it will be twice as fast as a DSL connection that I use at home. Thinking of using the Clearwire on the road if it checks out as reliable service.
