Thanks Carl, found this on Drop Cams website.
If your camera is on Live Streaming only (no cloud video recording plan or free trial), video only streams to the cloud when you load the web viewer or mobile app viewer to begin viewing live video. Since Dropcam is not recording footage for Live Streaming cameras, video is not streaming constantly but only when you begin viewing your video. This helps reduce your bandwidth and data usage. As long as your camera is turned on, motion and sound detection remain active and you will receive event notifications for any activities.
I had seen other posts complaining about the data usage, but they must have been set for recording.

John

It's funny, after I posted I thought, hmmm, maybe I should've gone to their website and see how it worked but you answered that part of my curiosity. If they stream recordings to the cloud, ouch, that'd burn up a lot of data and would be more appropriate if say you had a permanent cable modem connection or something similar (DSL, fiber, etc.).

It totally makes sense now that others would complain about data usage, just don't record.

I'm solving that problem differently but I'll have a fixed IP with a cable modem and purchased a standard low end security video recorder with 4 wireless cameras I'll place strategically in the coach. I'll be able to get alerts via email and peek in every once in a while w/o worrying about data usage.

Are there any of these cameras that provide temperature readings? So while I'm checking in on the coach, I can read what the inside temp is?

And add this as well

Padad, reading about this camera, it seems it will monitor constantly to the cloud.. This will eat up a data plan. Where are the cameras where you just log into an app and view what's going on, hence data is only used during that period..

I think that Cloud Cam has some temp sensor in it. I've got one of those Time/Temp displays in my rig and I just pan the camera(not a cloud cam) over to it and read the inside and outside temperatures.
