Ipad and external gps
We want to use our iPads when traveling but they're wifi only. We've used an external Bluetooth GPS called the Dual Electronics XGPS in the plane and it works great. My question is have any of you used it and does it get adequate reception sitting on the dash in a MH?

Have never tried that device but what I do is turn on the hotspot on my iPhone and then my iPad works just fine and it is nice to have the larger screen on the iPad

That doesn't help if you're trying to use the iPad for navigation.
Sorry - I don't have any experience with external GPS units.

Why not ? If you have a hot spot while driving , all of your wifi devices will work. I think ?? I've never hot spotted

That's funny because I use mine all the time and it works just fine for me...... Just go to maps and punch in a address and hit route and your on your way ...... Like I said just try it it works great !

My IPhone will support up to 5 devices when the Hotspot is on. We use our IPad when enroute, easier to see, it's wifi only.

I use the hotspot on my iPhone to keep my RVND weather app connected for weather updates. Hotspot keeps your wifi apps connected and working.

It's not the lack of Wifi. It's the lack of precision location information, ie, the GPS.

The iPad GPS apps work fine. The problem is losing hot spot connectivity in some areas. I prefer to rely on a separate GPS unit.

With an iphone it is not a problem. It is a problem with an ipad without cellular ability. Hot spot can be inaccurate. Having the 3g/4g ipad even without a cellular plan works fine as that unit has a built in gps chip that does not require internet nor cellular connectivity.

The Dual GPS works fine on most dashboards. There is an external antennae available for the Dual and the Bad Elf GPS if you're in a Class C with roof overhang or metal roof on RV. By not turning on iPhone hotspot you save $$. You will need an app that downloads all map data into the iPad since it will only be connected to the GPS.

I agree.
I'm curious what carrier Crop Duster is using.

A WiFi iPad doesn't need a cell phone carrier, that's why we buy WiFi only iPads. The Bluetooth connects GPS signal to the iPad.
