I can search the internet while on a call. I can play most games while on a call. I can look in my phone/address book while on a call. I have the Droid 2 and Thom has the Droid Maxx. Not sure how it started that you could not do those things on a Droid phone or maybe it was certain phones that you could not but we had the original Droids before getting these and we could do lots of things while on calls.

That's good to know. Thanks. Actually I was probably thinking carriers not phones. Do you have AT&T? Because if my suspicion is correct that Verizon and some others can't do this , the op may want to know as they consider plans. I have AT&T and multitask all the time while on the phone. I guess if I'm wrong , I'll hear about it here .

We have Verizon. I was forced to go AT&T for all of about 3 hrs and I am still paying for it 2 yrs later. Credit is crap because of them even thou they agreed that I owe them nothing. You would think that around a city like Los Angeles that you would get something of a signal but AT&T had nothing. We went back to Verizon as soon as we could and would not change that for anything. Thom has been traveling all over the US and Canada for work for about 7 yrs and the only carrier that got a signal everywhere was/is Verizon.

We have the iphone 5c it is in a case to protect it. We like "gas buddy, weather app our local news paper app", just to name a few. Have found Verizon works best for us. We also use it as a " Hot Spot" while away from home base. We are still finding useful apps and still learning!

AT&T has served me well in 49 States. We spent the summer in the Smokey Mountains. Verizon is supposed to be the carrier of choice. I had service and those with Verizon. didn't. Go figure.

I have both att and Verizon. Can talk and surf at same time. I live in rural area and att built tower by my house, Verizon didn't have good signal here but I've had it for years for when I travel. Used to have local cell company before att. Travel alot and on phone constantly. Att sucks, much worse service and much lower data speeds than Verizon most places. Very few spots I've been has att had service and Verizon not and never has att been faster data where they both have equal service. I also find in populated areas att data speeds fluctuate wildly from 4g lte to so slow the Internet won't even load, Verizon never fluctuated. It's like att network gets overloaded from to many people using it and fails. Calls still work but data shuts down. If Verizon worked better where I live I would not have att, they suck everywhere else but the one remote tower where I live, and its only 4g not 4glte. 4g is like 5mps and 4glte is around 15-20mps with att and 36mps with Verizon depending on how close to tower you are

Yep. AT&T and my iPhones have served me well in the 49 continental US states too. Data speed has been great in the last 100+ US locations over the last 3 years, coast to coast, North to South.
Did have a dead zone at the North Rim of the GC and in Death Valley, but it was the same for every service. Currently 10 miles outside of Tucson with 2 or 3 bars of signal, googling to my heart's content.
iPhone/Droid or Verizon/AT&T is like saying Ford/Chevy, and anyone can have an opinion.
I am comfortable with iPhone. I am simply used to it; 3rd one in 5 years.
Droid only has a size advantage that I dont need or want, but Apple has stuff in the wings.
Nuff said?

Android actually has many better and far more features/functions than apple plus its far more customizable but if you aren't using it to it's full potential you won't notice the features you don't have. Apple was on top till the iphone 3 and then android blew them away and continue to advance much faster than apple. If you just make calls and want to occasionally look at the net apple is great, but if you want to constantly use the phone for the net or write long emails on it then apple sucks. It really depends on your intended usage. If you were using data constantly as I do you will notice atts fluctuating speeds. It's no secret att service as a whole sucks, everyone I know in various states have switched to Verizon and will never go back. There are small pockets here and there where att is better, such as where I live. If I never traveled I would probably think they are better too but since I have both and travel a lot and compare them frequently in different spots it becomes quite apparent Verizon is far better overall for the data using traveler. The only time I've seen Verizon service suffer is sometimes at sporting events where 60, 000 extra people come to town.

johnmark, your choices of iPhone 5 and Verizon should do just fine and exceed all of your requirements.
Best wishes!

Some interesting reading. I'm sure there are many more links that will support anyone's beliefs. This is sent from my old iPhone 4 on with Koodo up here in Canada and I couldn't be happier with this setup.
Ps. I still think Cat is better than Cummins.

Yes, very interesting. I always knew iPhones were secure, but I'm surprized that Androids are susceptible to malware.
Kudos to you!

Yea that's from 2009, lol! Apple isn't really any more secure however its true less hackers target Apple because over 70 of smartphones worldwide are Android. You will never have a problem on any phone unless you download apps from email links from people you don't know or fail to read the comments of the app and download every one you see, lol. I've never had a virus on my windows pc either. A little common sense goes a long ways.

Look again. 9 Oct. 2013. To me it seems pretty up to date but in the computer/cell phone arena it was probably old the day after it was printed.
