IR Repeaters
This has been discussed before, but I would like to hear from people who have had actual success at getting poorly responsive equipment to work with their IR transmitters. I have a DUAL dash radio that I use as the sound system in our coach. It works really well as a bluetooth audio source, but the remote is crappy. I have tried a couple of simple repeaters that simply receive the IR signal and retransmit it through an IR LED stuck in front of the unit. The ones I tried are worse than the original.
Who has a recommendation for an actual device that works? I am leaning toward an RF unit to make sure that the IR sensor can be located near the TV set.
Info with brand and model is requested. Thanks so much.
Tom

If the remote is crappy, a repeater will just retransmit a crappy signal. Try a new remote.

I have the Buffalo ir-100, not made anymore. The new version is the ir-250. Works well with Home Entertainment, sat receiver and DVD player. Came from the factory wired up, if the transmitter ever goes bad I think I’ll be in trouble.

Thanks for the replies. The Buffalo units would probably work, and I may come back to that, but I'm really not sold yet.

I've been using this repeater for a couple of years without any issues. With the exception of the TV all my equipment (DirecTV DVR, Roku, and A/V system) are all in cabinets and having an IR repeater is essential. I use a Logitech Harmony 650 to control everything without any problems.

Thanks, Joel. That looks like a good one, and I may settle on that.
The thing that I'm trying to do is to get a good repeater (the ones I got just do not work) that will control two or more components in different places within the coach, not in the same cabinet. The multiple re-transmitters on most of these require a wire from the box to each component.
I had thought that an RF link would allow them work together with no additional wires. They do make those, but they get pretty pricey. I do like the one you recommended and will probably just buy two of them and stop messing around.
Thanks to all for the help.
Tom
