Have had the analog TV and dish receiver for years. Will be purchasing a new digital TV soon. Will I have to get a replacement receiver from Dish to get the digital signal? Thanks Phil

I am using my DISH 311 receiver in the MH and it works fine, it is just not HD. You have to have a HD receiver to receive HD.

Satellite TV has always been digital, and then it was converted back to analog by the receiver. That's why it worked with the old TVs. If your new TV can handle analog input (I'm assuming your old SD receiver doesn't have an HDMI output), no new receiver will be required. It won't, of course, be HD.

Dishnetwork (And DirecTV) have always been digital, they have never been analog. and no, you do not need to buy a new antenna.

As for the receiver. There is an ongoing battle between the service providers and pirates... At some point it will likely require a HARDWARE upgrade of the receiver... I do not know if that point has passed.

As long as you are not interested in HD programming, then, no, you will not have to replace your receiver.

If you ARE interested in HD programming, then you'll not only have to replace your receiver, but you'll have to get a new dish (assuming your current dish just has a single LNB)...as well as upgrade your Dish Network programming to include HD.

Don't forget that if you also have an antenna as a source for the new TV, you can get alot of HD programming off the air. The sat source might not be HD but off air is.

(great for football season!!)

Also, depending on your satellite receiver, look at the back of the receiver and see if there is an "antenna" input jack (RF). My Dish receiver has it. I plug the batwing cable into that jack and then go to the menu OF THE SATELLITE RECEIVER, and scan for local channels. You than can use the Guide, just as you do for the satellite channels. Again, I'm working with a DISH Network receiver.
