Hi,

You shouldn't have to rewire anything I don't think. There should be an on/off switch on the monitor. My camera goes on automatically when I put gear shift in reverse plus I can push on/off button on Monitor in dash and it will come on and stay on til I turn it off.

Good luck!

X2 As Tom says, there should be a button on the front of the monitor to keep it on. The best way to keep an eye on your toad!!

CountyFit,
On my 2000 Magna the camera is on anytime I turn the radio/monitor on. My monitor/radio is a Panasonic CO-VA70EU. Do you have the wiring diagrams for your coach? You may be able to re-wire the existing wire to do what you want.

If you don't get anymore help here, try the yahoo country coach owners forum Country-Coach-Owners : Country Coach Owners Association Be sure to include your coach number if you post on the yahoo forum.

Often the power wires to the monitor provide power in same cable that runs from monitor to the camera. Check behind monitor and see if it has 3 wires in. One is 12 v (+) from ignition switch, second is 12 v (+) from reverse shifter, third is ground. Mine were red (1) blue (2) black (3).

thank you all for your info... as we know, camera has a tendency to deteriorate video quality over time, typically after one year the video quality going downward can be recognized by bare eyes. with permanent power, although i can turn the monitor off, the camera is still working, just not showing on monitor.

my existing monitor is alpine and camera is panasonic tw-cc100b. i don't have a button in front to turn the camera on. after 12 years, the image is plain and blurry. the camera does not have 3 wires, only red and black. i am not sure who did the install, but looked like unprofessional. i got a new camera now, this time i wanted to make it right.

i'll try to find the wiring diagram, but not sure i can understand those fussy stuffs . at the worst scenario, i can install an on/off switch prior to powering the camera. when i am using the coach, i'll turn it on; when in storage, turn it off. not perfect but at least cut the waste time down.

my alpine head is iva-w205, i am sure not oe. my assumption is - when the installer swapped out the panasonic crt monitor with alpine lcd monitor (has an gps harddrive), since there was no corresponding button on alpine, he just simply dropped the wire...

Usually the electronics that control that are under the dash up front in the motor home.

Now, what I do is just push the power button on the monitor and up it comes.. I though about simply moving the sense lead but.... I use input B for another camera and when in REVERSE it auto switches to input A (The back up camera) so that option would not work for me.

I do wish there was a way to get it to track the ignition though.. Would make it easier. But I use a "Wand" to push the button so it's not that hard.

If your RV came from the factory with a connection for a trailer plug at the rear you can check and see if it has a +12V line that is only hot when the key is on - then you only need to snake a wire from the camera down to the rear bumper area...

If your tow package doesn't include a switched 12 v + then look on the engine. There will be many switched 12 v sources there.

my tow terminal (a 7-pole socket) does not have one per engine, but have one hot all the time. Bob came up with a good idea, definitely there will be those on engine. i will look into it. big thanks.
