The code that was used to hack Gmail accounts in China is now publicly available on the Internet, and security experts are urging computer users throughout the world to be highly vigilant until a patch can be developed.
More info.

All the more reason to be sure one's anti-virus software is up to date. Thanks, Dirk.

And they are after the Yahoo mail accounts as well. If you get hit by one before you spyware and antivirus get updated, you are out of luck.
I have gotten a couple wanting me to log in and update my Yahoo AT&T email account data. Best bet is to not open anything unless you know the sender.
One antivirus program is now not good enough for a lot of folks.

If you're using IE6, you should upgrade to IE8.
I'm not sure what these people are hacking into. I don't read or write mail at the GMail website...I download all my email via OE...so, as a consequence, don't have any email addresses in the GMail address box on their website. Can these hackers hack into OE?

Having worked at NASA, JSC in computer security I can assure you that no one program can cover it all, and in many cases several programs cannot. However, most anti-virus programs will not work co-dependently with another. Spybot and Adaware will not remove all spyware or adware programs. All you can do is make SURE your definitions are up-to-date, and in most cases this will take care of 99% of the viruses, etc.
Clear out your "history" and "cookies" occasionally. Remember that if you clear your "cookies," you will not have your passwords stored for entering sites, so you should remember them.
As Ken stated. Do NOT open any unsolicited email, or from people you do not know. If you are using Microsoft Outlook, set your security preferences to the "restricted" zone. There have been MS publications on this, so search for it.
I personally restrict all email to "text" format. HTML may look nice, but it can send you to places you don't want to go without you knowing it.
Security is a conscientious effort.
Happy netting!!
