I ve been FT for 2 years now and when traveling down the road, occasionally i see another rver and want to say something to him, maybe like Your Toad Is Loose or love your rig or well just Hi. Instead i just roll along and wave. I remember traveling with a club and not only chatting with them but many n the road on the cb s. Now, most Rv s just travel and never speak. I get more truckers friendly than fellow campers except in some Fulltime funtime snowbird camps. I do know that most of the forum members enjoy conversation on the forum, but I would enjoy some on the road too Surely, someone could come up with a simple radio or phone app or a way for campers to communicate. Long ago it was CB channel 12 and many had it on the back of their campers. I know there are many different fmrs,gmrs etc but maybe someone has ideas.

As a recent (1 week) retiree and RV newbie with a CB background as a teen, I've considered installing one for just the reason GDBTN mentions. I'd be interested in this, or an alternative. HAM radio has done away with the Morse code requirements for a Technician class license, so at might be a modern alternative - using the bands that allow simplex (CB-like direct user to user) comms and duplex comms through repeaters in different areas, giving us someone else to talk with when we get where we are going. The inexpensive radios from brands like Beofeng make this reasonably inexpensive. The license now just requires a little technospeak and radio knowledge. Just enough to keep the odd balls at bay.
Thoughts?
PS to GBDTN, I'm currently moving to north Chat, TN with an '05 Discovery. We may not be too far apart from your listed home base.

I have a factory installed Cobra CB in my MH. I have tried monitoring the RV channel 12. Doesn't seem like anyone is on it. With it's limited range it is almost useless. As a result I haven't turned mine on in three years.

Communicating with other driver would be fun but I don't know of a system that will do this, unless it's prearranged.

I run a whole bunch of radios
CB on 19
CB on 13 (Good sam's channel)
146.52
and occasionally other frequencies as well.
I have 3 or 4 scanners (without counting) for ham frequencies some are dual band some are single band and some are your choice of band.
I really want to replace my original Kenwood dual bander or get another Yesau Handheld dual bander but alas.. Not yet in the budget.
