If you haven't checked this software out you owe it to yourself. www.keyhole.com Basically, it takes satellite images and allows you to move over and zoom into them with ever increasing resolution as you get closer to ground level. One of the best parts of this software is the ability to tilt down and move over the image as though you are flying over the terrain or over a hightway. It's very impressive for giving you the lay of the land and the look of your next campground. The shortcoming I found was there is limited coverage for the "boonies", but near metro areas there is excellent coverage. The other shortcoming is requires you be connected to the internet which is ok when you're parked, so it's not for use while on the road. The satellite image gives you a preview of your next stop.
I just found this software yesterday as it is linked off the Google search page under the MORE heading. Worth a look.
