Do you mean it will be End Of Sale, End Of Support or that it will not work anymore?

nhcouple,

I have that same dish, I hope your wrong. All of Direct Tv comes off one satellite, 101, the King Dome finds it with ease. I'm not sure about Dish, but I believe they use 110 & 119. Unless Direct or Dish change the satellites they use I doubt what you heard is accurate.

King dome

Mine stopped working a couple weeks aga. Called King Dome told same thing. Had to replace system. After a lot of research and talking with techs went with winegard G2. Will fit in same holes as King dome, gets both dish and direct, and half the price of other units. Just had it put on last week. Gotta love satellite providers??

Earlier this year, DISH began an effort to convert most of its satellite TV signals from QPSK encoding to a new 8PSK format. The new signals allow more content to be streamed through the same bandwidth and provide greater utilization of satellites, although these signals cannot be decoded by many mobile satellite antennas or the older DISH Network satellite receivers including models 301, 2800, 3700, 3900, 4900, 1000/1500, 3000/3500, 4000/4500, 5000/5500, 501, 508, 510 receivers.

Since 1998, KING has manufactured a variety of mobile satellite antennas using several different proprietary methods of finding and identifying satellite signals. Some of these models relied on the QPSK signal in order to identify satellites and will be affected by these changes from DISH. Other models manufactured by KING either do not rely on this type of information to lock-on and identify the satellites, or they were designed with a special tuner that has the ability to identify the 8PSK signals from DISH and therefore are not affected by these changes. We expect that DISH will continue to transmit QPSK encoded signals from at least a single transponder on each DISH satellite for some time, so most KING satellite antennas that rely on that signal can be programmed to look for the remaining QPSK signals.

A historical list of KING satellite antenna models and the related impact of this change on each model is listed below:

KING-DOME

9700/9702/9702-LP/9630/9630-LP
*Unaffected by DISH transition to 8PSK

9704/9704-LP
*S/N #611325 or lower requires software re-programming with KING #1844 dealer installation & diagnostic tool (higher S/N already use 8PSK tuner and are not affected)

9754/9754-LP
*S/N #702321 or lower requires software re-programming with KING #1844 dealer installation & diagnostic tool (higher S/N already use 8PSK tuner and are not affected)

KD2200
*S/N #B06292 or lower requires software re-programming with KING #1844 dealer installation & diagnostic tool (higher S/N already use 8PSK tuner and are not affected)

KD3200
*S/N #C05888 or lower requires software re-programming with KING #1844 dealer installation & diagnostic tool (higher S/N already use 8PSK tuner and are not affected)

KD2000
*Unaffected by DISH transition to 8PSK, already uses 8PSK tuner

KD3000
*Unaffected by DISH transition to 8PSK, already uses 8PSK tuner

TRAC-KING

9760/9762/9762-LP
*S/N #370864 and higher may be re-programed from end user controller to track active QPSK transponder on satellites 110/119/129. Additional support for the Trac-King model antennas is no longer available.

VUQUBE

VQ1000/VQV10
*Unaffected by DISH transition to 8PSK

VQ2000
*S/N #106-4989 or lower requires software re-programming with KING #1844 dealer installation & diagnostic tool or upgrade to 8PSK tuner (higher S/N use 8PSK tuner and are not affected)

VQ3000
*S/N #107-1526 or lower requires software re-programming with KING #1844 dealer installation & diagnostic tool or upgrade to 8PSK tuner (higher S/N use 8PSK tuner and are not affected)

VQV20
*S/N #104-1186 or lower requires software re-programming with KING #1844 dealer installation & diagnostic tool or upgrade to 8PSK tuner (higher S/N use 8PSK tuner and are not affected)

VQV30
*S/N #105-1418 or lower requires software re-programming with KING #1844 dealer installation & diagnostic tool or upgrade to 8PSK tuner (higher S/N use 8PSK tuner and are not affected)

Customer Service at King-Dome just confirmed to me the model 9762-LP will no longer work and I must replace it if I want satellite TV. The guy assured me there is no software update to correct the problem. Anyone else experiencing this issue and what are your plan?

King Dome 9762-LP Manual pointing

Does anyone know if the King Dome 9762-LP can be manually pointed to a specific azimuth and altitude using the control box in dealer setup mode.

Since the dish no longer locks on to DISH signals due to recent changes I wanted to bypass the 'automatic' dish locating software and manually force the unit to point in a certain direction.

There appears no way to manually point the dish on the KingDome. I am quite sure if KingDome really wanted to they could update firmware or provide a new board to correct this issue. They choose not to so that they can require owner to buy a new system. It's called planned obsolescence. I don't think I really want to deal with a company like that, so when our KingDome will no longer work with our DirecTV we plan on replacing it with a Wineguard and probably the Traveler. It will work better for us in bad weather and wooded areas too, where the KingDome performs poorly. Chuck

BTW
Just found out our Winegard MV-3500A was also affected by the change and prior to me figuring that out (after reading this thread) I already installed a Trav'ler. If you have an obsoleted Winegard they will offer discounts to upgrade. About 1/2 off for a refurb or some discount off new. Winegard told me anything older than 2013 could be affected.

We have the 9702-LP and, like the list above from mobil sat says, when I called King they confirmed that the 9702-LP model is not impacted by the changes and will support Directv. He also told me that it will NOT support the Directv Genie system (the one I brought with us this trip, of course) but it will support more traditional Directv DVR's, any model H-24 or below.

Thanks to all the contributors above! We are having a new roof put on starting tomorrow so our existing King Dome will have to be removed and put back. I was tempted to buy a new dish for ~~$1500 but because of the posts here and a call to King I know our current dish will work for a while at least.

Thanks!

Curt

It doesn't sound as if anyone bothered to tell you that older non-SWM dishes can be converted to DirecTV SWM (so they work with receivers with model numbers above 24) as long as the dish has two LNB outputs. I have a pre-SWM Trav'ler that was converted to SWM two years ago.

Here's the Winegard publication on how to convert its older equipment to SWM. It can be used with hardware other than Winegard's, as long as the equipment has dual outputs. http://manuals.solidsignal.com/SWM840.pdf

My friends have a Wingard 'Roadtrip SD'. was that one impacted by the changes?

They haven't turned their service on yet this year but will this weekend.

Call Winegard to confirm. Mine was affected MV3500A. They said any automatic older than 2013 could be affected.
They do offer discounts on units from this change.
~1/2 off on a refurb and some discount off of new.
I upgraded to a Traveler before I found out exactly what the problem was. So no discount for me.......
