We've got an in-motion King Dome and I'm having a problem getting it to power up. Receiving an error "ANT COMM ERROR" -- no explanation in my owner's manual on this error/correction? Thanks in advance.

Hi Chief;
I just bought an RV with a King Dome on it too. I can't get it to power up either, but I didn't get the "diagnostic" tool that the book refers to. I assume you did as you are getting an error code. Does that come standard with the units or did you have to buy that with it?
Thanks
Ed
P.S. I'll be watching, hoping you get the answer you are looking for

Here is the manual. See info starting on page 35 to trouble-shoot the Ant Comm Error message and let us know what you find.

Only the Trac-King (in-motion) would have the digital display with the information described above. If you have a standard King Dome with just and on/off switch and you get no lights at all when you push the button you should trace down the 12V source as it may be become disconnected. If this King Dome is several years old there is a coupler in the outside connection area of the dome which has a phone type connector that reverses the phone line input/output. If this gets corroded you will not get the 12V power and needs to be replaced. All KD dealers should have one. You can also check for 12V power in that same location if you want.

Bill I wish mine was one of the units in this guide, because it seems the tuner provides the power source to the unit. As mine is the one needing it's own 12 volt power source I have to wait on the shop to find the problem with it not powering up. I never knew a device like this could get it's power through a coaxial cable but it appears to be the case here.

If you don't have a Trac-King, what do you have? Don't you have a display like the one pictures and isn't that where the message is coming from?
The Trac-King supplies 24V through the coax to the dome but the basic power for everything to work is the 120V plug that goes into the control unit itself (not the display unit).

Thanks Bill You're our 'expert' on satellite TV issues. After reading the possible causes of this error code and what is required to find the problem, I'm going to let the dealer take care of the issue -- along with several others when I take the coach in for warranty work.

It's at storage now so I can't check the exact model number, but I have only the hand held control. It doesn't have any read out on it. just lights that should flash or change colors... now they do nothing.... because it was installed by the dealer I bought it from in Phoenix... don't know why he took the factory one off and replaced it with a new king dome but he did... I've tried to track down the power source (with them on the phone) and all they could tell me to do was test two different fuses (both of which had power)... and it still doesn't do anything when I click it on... So hopefully when at the shop next week they can track down the original power source and fix it. I sure wish I lived near you Bill... you are a wealth of info.
Ed

Sorry, I realize too late that I was responding to the wrong poster. Since I can't delete the worthless post it will just have to sit there and linger.
On your system you need to check the connections I mention on the roof and see if there is corrosion and see if there is power there.

I have been having the same problem and had a tech come out yesterday when the "ant comm error" problem was occuring. The 24 volts required from the tuner was actually only 14 volts. A new tuner/power supply is required. Rather than paying the parts and labor I am having the Winneguard Traveler installed. The rain fade, no HD and future programming availability from DTV makes this a great move for me.

Finally had it checked out in the shop and it seems I have a bad unit. King Dome is sending a new one free of charge and hopefully I'll have satellite tv soon.

Just a little input here. I have been having some trouble with my King Dome searching correctly. What I have found is that if the 12 volts that supplies the dome is low then the dome either will not start a search or will never get two green lights on the handheld control. As soon as I start the Generator or plug into shore power the King Dome works fine. I think my house batteries are low 11.8 or so after driving all day I bet the King Dome requires close to 13 volts to work correctly.

There are 2 different King Dome power sources.

1) The Trac-King (in-motion) uses 120V power source which then provides a source so that it is able to send 24V power to the roof unit.

2) The stationary King Dome (not Trac-King) uses the coach 12V power or (if you want a better running KD) 120V power source that converts this to clean and consistent 12V power to the roof unit.
