We purchased our (new to us) motor home about four years ago. The King Dome #9702 had been installed in 2003 and was set up for DirectTV, which we had. It worked fine until recently. First it seemed like it was having trouble connecting to the satellite; now it appears to lock on to a satellite with both lights steady green, but we don't get a signal.

I need to tell you all that I am electronically challenged big-time when it comes to working on TV, satellite, stuff, etc.

I have the King Dome connected directly to the receiver and directly from the receiver to the TV. I have replaced the connector on the King Dome cable and it didn't change anything. I can hook it up directly to my tripod dish and get about 92% on the signal bar.

On the setup screen that shows shows what I believe to be the transponders, two come in at 67 and 72 on the first line; two come in at 63 and 64 on line two; on line three, 73 and 70; and line four, 69 and 61.

When I hook up directly to the remote satellite dish, most of the transponders come in at the high 80s to 90 range.

I'm the type of person that doesn't mind trying to learn and fix something prior to taking it to a shop. I just need some help if anyone has had similar problems I would appreciate any knowledge or information that you could share with me. One sure gets spoiled pushing that button on the King Dome vs. setting up the tripod.

Thank you very much.

Your post has almost the same problems I was having with my King Dome. We bought our coach brand new in June of 2010 and we had issues since day one. Monday we replaced our King Dome with a Winegard In Motion and couldn't be happier. It just plain works when you turn it on. We went on a two week vacation last month and the KD did not work once! DW finally said that's enough and let's replace it.

Larry,

Your problem description is identical to the issues we had with our Kingdome. We have a 2002 coach and the dome worked OK until about one year ago. You can call King Controls and try to get some assistance but, bottom line, those models are sunset and you will likely not be able to get it repaired.

We replaced the Kingdome with a Winegard Trav'ler Slimline auto dish for Direct TV and it is fantastic. The Trav'ler is not an in-motion dish but you can get high definition signals if you prefer. If you are only interested in standard definition signals, there is a less expense model.

I have the same model when I bought the motorhome could not get it to work. I have dishnetwork and after going Thur all the wires. The wrong cable were connected Thur the switch box. After undoing everything and reconnecting it works fine. If your getting a strong signal and all the wires are right. Do You have another satellite reciever box to try.
