King Dome Mystery

I have a model 9762-LP-41 which has a "Tuner p/n 100356-2".

Now here is where the mystery comes in:

Rear TV with seperate Direct TV receiver works fine and gets all channels. This rear TV receiver is fed directly from the "aux coax directly from the dome on the roof.

The front TV's get only half of the channels, but when I disconnect the power to the "King Controls Tuner" these channels drop out, but the other half channels come in.

In other words if I want to watch CNN I need to unplug the power cable from the back of the tuner. If I want to watch FOX I need to plug the power cable back in.

I'm hoping someone out there has had this same problem and knows the solution. It's got me buffaloed.

They have great online documentation. When I was reading through it trying to calibrate my unit I recall reading about the limitations of two receivers and the unit having to switch satelites (101 - 199 I think) based on the "primary" receiver. I dont recall the precise verbiage, but grab the manual from the king controls website and I bet that clears it up.

Gene,

When we were talking, I was forgetting you have a dome. It does have to move the antenna depending on which channel you've tuned into. One of the receivers is set as the primary, or in other words, one of the receivers is controlling the dish. The other is at the mercy of what is being watched on the primary. That's why you have that extra box.

I'm no expert, but I'm guessing the only permanent solution would be to replace the dome with something like what we have, the Traveler.

The KD has a dual LNB. This is the reason, you can have 2 separate receivers. One of the LNB call it "B" is connected directly to a receiver, LNB "A" connects to another receiver. LNB "A" also is used to detect the satellite signal. The power to do that comes from the receiver connected.
First question, has the unit always been this way or did it just start?

So, try this simple test. After setting up and aligning, go to sat signal, look at the transponder page, I bet you are missing every other one.
First start with a receiver reset. See if that will clear it up. Now it is possible the receiver is bad. Have you swapped front to rear?
LNB's are Vertical and horizontal polarization. This means 2 different voltages controlling the LNB.

Okay guys here are some more clues:

Rear tv and receiver gets good signal strength on all but 2 of the 32 transponders from satellite 101.

Front tv's and receiver only get a signal on every other transponder such as 0 96 0 95 0 98 0 97 (even numbers) with the KD tuner power plug in.

However, with the power plug disconnected on the KD tuner just the opposite is true 96 0 97 0 98 0 98 ( odd numbers).

I have reset the receiver several times with no affect.

KD tech guys think is the tuner that has stopped working after 2 years, but I don't want to spend $278 plus shipping just to try it.

Guess I'll try swapping receivers next, but doubt that's it.

Any ideas or input will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Gene

Well just finished swapping the receivers and no luck.

Mystery still the same.
