King Dome Power Problem

I have a King Dome 9704 (automatic stationary DVB). It was working fine until recently but now it stops searching. It appears to power up OK but when you press the search button, it moves for only a few seconds and then powers off.

I have spoken to King Dome and they said it sounds like it may not be getting enough voltage when it starts searching - or it could be the board. I had a previous King Dome with a board problem and replaced it with this one. If this one also has a board problem, this appears to be a systemic problerm.

Has anyone had this sort of problem? I really need some help.

I had a similar problem and eventually traced it to a loose connection at the King dome controller box in the RV. It is worth a check.

I have a very similar problem. Mine will do the initial search when I press and hold the search switch but when it finds a satellite it will never get to the point where both lights go solid green. Because they are not both solid green I can't make it search again. I found that if I have the generator on or am plugged in everything works fine. I checked the voltage were the KD is connected to the coach and found the connection were not very good. Redid the connections and thing are working better but if the 12 volts is below about 12.3 volts the KD does not work well.

I had a similar problem, found the arm inside the dome was hitting the inside of the dome and jamming, causing the search to stop.

Solved by putting washers between dome and base for each screw. Have enough clearance now and has worked fine for over two years now.

Best Regards!

I have the exact same problem with my 9704. I talked to KDome and they told me it sounded like a power issue. I have 12.4 volts before I start the search and only 10.3 when it searches...so Im gonna run a dedicated power wire to it and see if it helps. It might have to wait a few days though.... its too dang hot outside for that!

Please let me know if the dedicated power line solves the problem. Are you just running a new hot (+) line? I'm also replacing my coach batteries. My old batteries failed under a load test and that could also be explaining my King Dome problem.

Someone told me that one of the solutions to the problem is to get a small ac to dc converter and use that to power the king dome. Just plug it into an AC outlet near the search switch and use the DC output to power the King Dome. Since the inverter will create 120 AC even if the batteries are at 11.8 volts I guess you will get enough DC from the dedicated converter to run the King Dome
