Kingdome......I know, I know........

I'm about to the end of my rope with the Kingdome 9702 on my coach............it's lost the ability to lock/give me a signal - I've been through hours of conversation with tech line to no avail. Looking at the Trav'ler series and wondering if purchased an HD capable dish will it work on my Directv SD receiver and SD TV's? Not ready to upgrade the TV's yet (just don't use the coach enough)and don't want to rewire the whole coach.....everything is wired with RG-6 coax........2006 Travel Supreme.........I'm thinking spending even a dime on the Kingdome is money thrown away.........advice?...JB

You should not have a problem getting SD channels. A HD receiver has choice of SD & HD channels.

The Trav'ler is a bit of overkill for an SD application, but yes it will work.

The Trav'ler will work fine for SD programming and be ready for HD whenever you get around to it.

Pivotdoc, Have you had a tech plug into the dome with a laptop to see what it's doing or not doing? It may just need a software update/flash. They're very serviceable.

Nonetheless if you decide on the Trav'ler it is a very good antenna, expensive, but good. Here is their receiver compatibility chart: DIRECTV Receivers for the RV, Tailgating, Camping

I'm kinda stuck on the reflash deal, at least 200 mi. drive to Albuquerque just to find a tech. I suppose I could get the analyzer deal from Kingdome, but no guarantees it'll fix it. Right now it just spins and searches for hours if you let it, last time it worked was in September, was in storage until I got it out for Thanksgiving, hasn't worked since. Beyond frustrated at this point....... JB

I liked your original thread title "Kingdoom." Where did it go?

Remember, the only Winegard Trav'ler for DirecTV available today is the SWM version. Two problems with this antenna, one your receivers have to be SWM capable and two it needs 120VAC power connected to it. Not a real problem as long as you are in full service campgrounds. However if you boon dock that just becomes another power draw on the batteries.
No need to rewire anything either. You get a single coax and a 6 wire cable up to and from the antenna. Then a single coax from the splitter behind the TV to the second TV.

The 6-wire cable might be the deal-breaker........right now there is the Kingdome controller cable and a pair of coax, seems to be buried in the space between ceiling/roof and maybe down the nose cap........? I don't want to have to fish new stuff through there. The SWM thing is no prob, got HD receiver. Just SD TV's tho, not planning to upgrade. The Travlr just seems to be much better at finding/locking on that the dome style systems............... JB

The Traveler only needs power when powering up and powering down. Once you get fixed on the satellites you can disconnect from AC. It will be fine and no power drain on your batteries.

You do know that you have to pick your switch and sat. BEFORE you turn power on to the dome right? Sounds screwy, but mine was doing the exact same thing til I was schooled on how to set it up. And once locked in to turn the power off. It might be the same problem.

You have forgotten about the SWM power supply! It requires power all the time. SWM technology no longer sends power to the LNB via the receiver like in the old days. Now the LNB power is send up via the power supply.
As for the 6 wire, it is possible that you might be able to use the existing power cable by adding new ends for the Trav'ler.
