I have a kvh antenna with a direct TV box(just bought the cooach used) since I have dish at home would like to keep with dish. The tech where we bought it says the KVH 4 antenna will only work with direct tv and to switch to dish would cost me about $500 dollars but looking at the kvh site is says the antenna is good for both dish and direct. with just flipping a switchs at the antenna did this tech not know what he was talking about or am I going to have to either go with direct or lay out the extra money

From reading the Owners' Manual, it seems that there's a fairly easy set up to convert it to Dish. Check out the manual at this link, in particular, page 2:

TracVision R4 SL

Hope that helps.

Ya most the satellite devices need to be switched from Direct/Dish to use. My Kingdome required a plugin programming box to make the switch. My dealer did this for us. Once done right the satellite dish work as it should with my Dish receiver. This should not cost $500...shows someone is trying to sell you something you do not need.

steve no doubt on trying to sell me something I dont need. The problem it was the dealers tech that told me this. but looking in the manual it clearly say that it will work with both

On our Kingdome, there is a programming box they will send you and then you return it to them after programming. There is also a manual procedure to do it although it is several steps long. I did the manual one to change from direct to dish and it worked well first time. Good Luck. Happy trails Bert

I switched a KVH Tracvision R5SL from Direct to Dish. It required reprogramming the RF board for the new satellite set.

The technician connects to the Tracvision using a serial port adapter from the laptop to the inside control panel. I originally reprogrammed mine myself and had lots of issues. I then sent the boards into KVH and they sent me replacements that are working well.
You also need the KVH program plugs. These are sets of plugs that also plug into the serial port on the inside control panel and tell the unit what satellite set to search for.

I just switched my R5 f rom Direct to Dish. I found a local KVH dealer that knew how to reprogram and update the software and knew what I was talking about when I told him what I needed. It took about 1.5 hours. He was a mobile RV repair tech, so came to my MH. My R5 was purchased in 2007, so I assume your unit is newer and should work fine. The only issue I had was the receiver, initially the Dish installer set me up with a 222K which has 2 receivers. KVH told me that I should only use the 211K as they had found it to be quite stable, but had problems with the 222K. I would suggest calling KVH, they were very helpful.
