I had the wonderful opportunity to spend 1/2 an hour at the Hershey show with a lead KVH tech at their booth. I found out a bunch of things but, one was clarity on the difference between the R5 unit and R6. Thought this forum might like the information.

R6 has the following:
1. Cool low profile

2. Dew shield - this is a two part system - one is a specially coated dome, second, a little fan goes around inside to help keep the conditions inside and out such that there isn't condensation. This is to help w/rain fade attributed to dew. I have never had this w/my old KVH or my R5.

3. Unlimited receiver support. R6 comes with a receiver and can support as many other boxes as you would like. R5 has a max of two. That said, you can still only be on one satellite at a time.

4. GPS satellite acquitision. This is faster and more stable than just the scanning/signal meter method alone. Especially for in-motion obviously.

While the tech didn't say so, I feel for the price difference of an R5 vs. an R6, a real satellite TV nut might have a better set-up w/two R5s on the roof.
