twinboat,

You are safe. Your "locals" in New Jersey are the NYC "locals" and they will follow you probably all over the USA.

We have a similar situation in LA where Channels 2 (CBS), 4 (NBC), 7 (ABC) and 11 (Fox) are the same channels wherever we are (we have only tested to Minnesota) and can also be viewed on channels 391, 393, 397 and 399 respectively. These are not spot beamed. You will see your NY "locals" on either 2, 4, 5, 7 or 390, 392, 396 or 398 and these are not spot beamed either.

Bob

To make my wording more precise, you are getting the NYC channels as locals because you live in the NYC metro area (as DirecTV defines it). There is no spot beam, but, rather, those channels are available (using the channel numbers in the 390's) to those who pay for DNS service. Those of you who have service address in the NYC and LA areas are simply lucky because you essentially get DNS service for free.
