Leaking Winegard Antenna

We are experiencing a small leak around the crank up mechanism of the Winegard Antenna. It had been ok with the antenna down but during the last two rain storms it was cranked up. Could this make a difference in the water finding its way in? We also noticed that the surrounding caulk was mounded up so that water was pooling around the mounting brackets. It sounds like I should remove some caulk to let the rain run off better. Any help is appreciated.

I have the same problem. At first I thought I had to much caulk around the base as the 1/4" weep hole was plugged. Cleared the weep hole and it still leaks. I just took it all apart, re lubed the gear and couldn't find anywhere it could leak. I won't know till next trip if that worked.

Let me know if you find a fix. Anyone out there have a fix?

We also had a leak that dripped right on the passenger seat.. I found the water was coming in following the cable.. The rubber sleeve on the cable, where the cable inters the roof, was not secure anymore and I made a new on out of eternabond tape.. It has been holding for 1.5 years now. No more leak

Yep. I vote for the rubber sleeve or grommet where the coax enters the roof. I used water proof electrician tape to seal mine.

If you have the installation/service manual that came with the antenna read the section on maintenance. It states what and where (and how often) to lubricate the base of the antenna. This not only makes the antenna turn more easily, but also lubricates the rubber seals that are part of the shaft/crank that goes through the roof. If you need to the manual can be downloaded from their site.

And yes, it would be a good idea to make sure water does not pool around the base and that it has a path to run off.

Had a problem with mine leaking - boot that coax runs thru was cracked and brittle. Cut coax - installed new boot and reconnected coax - no more leak. Part is under $2.00

I had to replace my antenna this week and learned a couple of things in the process. The coax that disappears into the roof is only a few feet long and is joined to the coach's coax with a standard screw-on type fitting. No need to cut the coax to replace the rubber boot. Just pull up thru the base plate and unscrew. Of course, I leaned this well after I had cut mine a few years ago.

I never got a signal from my roof antenna.

I decided to use the old antenna cable, to bring my satellite signal in, from the roof mount dome.
When I disconnected the cable from the double male connector, under the boot, I discovered the center conducted, corroded away.

Humm, no wonder It never worked.

USMC - first of all thank you for your service! I thought about trying to get the boot over the screw on connection and probably could have done it but thought it might "stretch" the boot too much and it would still leak.

We had a heavy rain overnight. The antenna was cranked down and we didn't have a leak. That was the only thing different from three days ago when it did leak with it cranked up. Have to take another look to see what's going on.

When you raise the antenna the coax cable moves and can create and opening in the boot.
