I suscribe to Direct TV for inmotion satellite service. So, I don't get NBC & CBS. I just subscribed to NBC & CBS from New York and Los Angeles for $2.25(2). Why do I need both? I understand is the local feed from each of these cities, so I guess diferent programming. Does it also have to do with time zone differences?
Do I really get NBC & CBS from 2-cities all over the US? Thanks for heping clarify.

Bill, We are full-timers and we have distant network service (DNS) that gives us ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox from NY and LA. The news and local programming will be different, but the network programming will be the same - just at different times. And, yes, you will get NY and LA programming all over the U.S. Local programming is spot beamed and can only be picked up within 150 or so miles of your home, but DNS is available anywhere you can get your other satellite programming.
I like having the network programming from both coasts. That way, no matter where we travel, we can pick the programming that suits the time zone we are in and that suits our schedule. If we miss a program or if the NY program is too early for us, we can pick it up later from LA.
We have a DVR which will allow us to record 2 programs at the same time or watch one program live and record another. On rare occasions when there are 3 things to watch/record, we can always pick one of them up from the opposite coast.

Tanks PAZ. Wow, you sure know a lot about what I don't. The whole TV-thing has been complex and frustrating for a newb. We are first time motorhome(Journey), in motion dish(KVH) and satellite(direct) users. dish has finally stabiized after a new core installed under warranty. We can usually make the 2-receivers and 1-wireless channel changer do what we want on 2-TVs. Now we have NBC/CBS and I guess DNS. I saw Greenbay/Chicago on NBC broadcast at same time from NY and LA? If I understand you, that should have been different time zomes? We'll keep looking at NY vs LA choices. Perhaps we need the flexibility you refer to.

Live sporting events such as ball games and races are on east and west feeds at the same time.

Dirk is absolutely correct - things like sporting events are on at the same time because they are live, although sometimes NY and LA will have on different games. I was thinking primarily of prime time programming that would be on at different times.

Ours took over 2 weeks to get switched on, but I've heard some come through in a few days. A week is probably typical from what I've read. You just turn on your TV and receiver one day and channels 380-388 (no PBS in our case) are there.
I think somewhere on the web site it says it can take up to 14 days or something like that. When I called to check on it after 2 weeks, they used the excuse that 14 days meant 14 BUSINESS days, which means it could take up to 3 weeks. Ours came on shortly after my call, but I doubt if the call had anything to do with it. Not much can be done to hurry things.

I got lucky, immediate turn-on of the east and west coast feeds as I was on the phone. I asked for a 'direct' supervisor and told him my story. Direct receiver installer had never been in a MH before and could not do install, I hired RV shop to do install. We had a continuous pattern of dropped service which in retrospect probably was the KVH dish not Direct. Also I was on the road and would not get their mailing for several weeks.

The only thing consistant about Dish/DirecTV reps is their inconsistancy.
After my distant networks were turned on, it took several calls to get PBS activated on my DirecTV service.

Dirk, how did you get them to turn on PBS? They told me it's 'not available for DNS'.

Don and Mary,
You just need to call again. Until recently we couldn't get PBS either. If you get hold of the right person they now understand that the National PBS programming is also covered under the DNS regulations. It's an extra $1.50 month for this channel but it is available to you.

It is just one channel (384). You have to keep an eye on the programming to see what is on and when.
