Hi! Can anyone help me with this problem? I have a 2004 coach and it has the old TV over the front of the coach. I would like to take it out and replace it with a new HD lcd tv. But, this TV is square and all the new tv's are rectangle. Would I just have to take the old one out and put a wood front on the old "hole" where the tv was and then mount a new tv on that? I am wondering how difficult it would be? Are the wires under the ceiling and passendger side of my coach? I don't even know who to bring the coach to in order to accomplish this. Any help would be great! Thanks, Marie

It would help if you said what coach you have and if you intend to use satellite receiver or just over the air HD. What size CRT TV is in the spot now?

It's a very common upgrade and if you do a search of the forum you'll find many threads containing pictures of what others have done.

In short, it usually requires some carpentry skills to establish a new mount and trim as required.

Good luck...

Marie, as others have said, there are several threads that have photos and describe how other members have upgraded their TVs.

The location of wires will depend on your particular model of coach. Different manufacturers run wires differently. Not only that, but they can change methods from year to year. Most of our wires ran behind the front bulkhead.

I did what you suggested - just put wood over the opening and mounted the new flat screen to that. There are also lots of other ways to do it, but that worked best for the arrangement we had in order to maximize the size of the new TV I was going to add. If you want to see how I did ours, check out our blog entry Motor Home Project: Replace Front TV.

If you're not good at woodworking, there are several places in and around Elkhart, IN, that do RV woodworking and upgrades. There is also one Florida that advertises in the RV magazines all the time, but I can't remember the name off hand. There are also several shops and individuals near the Tiffin plant in Red Bay, AL. They specialize in Tiffins, but I'm sure they would work on any brand.

Looking for recommendations on which flat screen TV to buy for front cabinet. My 2003 Sony just went on the blink. I am probably looking at a "hard mount" so does it make a difference which to purchase because of the vibration, shaking, rolling that occurs in a coach?
Thanks for your help.

RVwheels, As I told Marie, Do a search on this forum and you will find loads of posts on different topics about LCD TV replacements. I got a 26" Vizio but had to reinforce the back for traveling on the highway. I was afraid something would tear loose and I always pictured the TV falling on me while driving down the highway.

I recently replaced my front 24in Sony crt tv with a 26 in Sanyo. I removed the trim from around the tv, removed the old (and heavy) tv and set it aside.
I bought a sanyo that would fit in the opening. The height was four inches less than the old tv. I lay the new tv, face down on a large cardboard and traced it with a felt tip pen. I then fabricated a new trim from oak for the front of the box the tv is mounted in. I then installed two side boards at right angle to the facing that fit into the space. I then attached two crossmembers far enough back to mount the tv on. I then connected the tv, slid the whole unit in the space and bolted in in. It works beautifully.
