I just received and hooked up my Phone Jack. Works great. It is something like vontage but only costs $20 a year. It is about $40 to buy the usb device to start and that includes the first year. You can look at it at www.magicjack.com
I have only used it one time but sounds just like a phone in your house. I am going to use it in the motor home when we have high speed internet from our air card. We will see how that works. I have 30 days to try or return it.

How it works is easy enough - it's just VOIP. But how do they do it for only $19.95 a year?

Since it does not appear to have a phone number assigned, I guess you can call out but cannot receive any calls? Or is there more to it than just "plug and talk" as the web site suggests?

UPDATE: I see that it DOES have its own phone number, automatically assigned when the Magicjack is first plugged in. Sounds great!

Has anyone tried the MagicJack using a MotoSat or other mobile satellite internet connection?

Just answered my own question... From the MagicJack FAQ...

=================================================
(Compatibility)
Will magicJack work with satellite broadband, like DirecTV?

No. We do not recommend using magicJack with satellite internet.
(Compatibility)
What type of internet service do I need?
Any of the following:

Broadband, high-speed internet, cable internet, DSL, WiFi or WiMax

magicJack does not work over Dial-up or satellite internet.
=================================================

However, that does not mean it will not work, so if you've tried it and had success let us know....
