I currently have a Winegard manual crank-up satellite dish and am considering upgrading to the Winegard Mission or Minimax dome. Has anybody else on this forum made a switch like this? Pros & cons? With the crank-up dish I can sometimes get a signal even though it appears to pointed right at a tree. How do the domes fair in that kind of environment? Any info or experience that can be shared would be greatly appreciated.

We have had both the Kingdome and the Winegard automatic dish. I would stay away from the kingdome. It lacks the capability for true HD TV AND when it rains you cannot watch satellite TV.

If you're looking for an automatic dish, the Winegard Trav'ler is the way to go. One button push and you're locked on.

2X; our Trav'ler has been incredible--seeing through tree branches, etc. We used to have a King Dome and thought that it was representative of automatic systems. Almost didn't buy the Trav'ler because we were so dissatisfied.

I would suggest that your crank-up dish likely has the potential to receive a stronger signal than most domes due to dish size. Inside those domes is a very small oval dish. We are in the GWN (Great White North) and had a dome on our old rig. Although it worked as advertised, being so far north the signal is weak and even the slightest moisture on the dome and TV was disrupted. Thanks to the recommendations on these forums, we've installed a Trav'ler on the new rig and couldn't be happier. Signal stays locked in the biggest downpours....and isn't that what the TV is for? LOL.
