I've recently been given Baron Systems' Mobile Threat Net for review and analysis.

Mobile Threat Net is a realtime weather monitoring system that tracks storms and any other pertinent weather data via real-time satellite feed viathe XM radio network. It also incorporates GPS capability so that you can track your vehicle's position and progress in relation to any storms.

It's a combination hardware/software device that uses a laptop as it's display. You can run this software concurrently with Street Atlas or any other GPS mapping software and bring it up whenever you see those big bad ugly clouds looming on the horizon. Then you can make a decision whether to detour, continue, or hunker down in a safe spot for a while.

I've done a complete review on my website at www.RVcruzer.com/weather.htm so rather than repeat it here simply click on the link and view that page. Included are links to the manufacturer as well as a link to an online demo that is available.

It's some pretty impressive stuff.

Having been a Storm Spotter for NWS and having used their equipment, I can say this system is very useful and appears to be a powerful tool.

As you stated it may not be cost effective for the typical RV'r.

Thanks for posting the information and screen shots. A Good report !!

As I understand it, the monthly rate for the service is hopefully going to be $35 a month with XM RADIO service included or $29 without the XM radio. They also will allow you to turn it oiff and inactivate it once a year. In other words you could turn it on in spring and off in fall and not pay over the season that you don't need it. That's a plus for RVers who use their coach seasonally.

Mark, Great write up! I have to agree with your summary - a little pricey for the average RV'er.

Thanks - Glenn
