I am trying to avoid reading through hours of stuff. I am sure somewhere on this forum the question is answered but here it is anyway. I have an external wireless card in my laptop. Is there a simple plug in device that will increase the range of the external card? So far everything I have seen seems to require drilling holes with complex wireing hookups with a large expenditure or subscribing to a plan for a monthly fee which I do not want to do. Any help would be appreciated

Is your card a WiFi card or a wireless (cellular) card? There is a difference.

Please tell us the card info, mfr, model #, etc, etc.

Which card is it? What is the model # ? If there is no connector for an external antenna other options need to be explored.

Its the N1 mimo wireless card from Belkin. There is no antenna connection at the rear of the card if that is what you are referring to. The range isn't bad if the antenna its picking up powerful but it seems like most campgrounds use the basics. So I have to get relatively close to get a good strong signal. I had looked a thing called a cantenna but I would rather just set up something in the coach and point it in the correct direction (if thats possible). I found something from Hawking and also Wi-Fire but I am not sure if I can use them or if they really do the job.

Without an external antenna connector on the card, an external antenna will not be useable.

To really enjoy good solid WiFi connections you need to consider the Wi-Fire or similar device that plugs into your USB port. Another good one is the Linksys WUSB54G or the WUSB54GR. The WUSB54GR has a range boost feature somewhat like the Wi-Fire has. Both of these devices enable you find a good location inside the RV.

I ordered the Wi-Fire. I hope it works as well as the posts say and the advertisement on their web site says.

Please keep us posted on your experience with the Wi-Fire product.

I purchased a Wi-Fire USB antenna after reading about it on this forum several months ago. I have been pleased at how well it has extended my ability to receive Wi Fi signals in campgrounds where I primarily use it.

I had previously tried a Hawking product which was absolutely worthless.

It took a little bit of a learning curve for me to get all aspects of it, but the technical reps were of great help.

Has anyone compared the Wi-Fire USB with RV2internet iAntenna 300 antenna? iAntennaThis might not be a fair camparison since the Wi-Fire is $80 and the iAntenna is $300. Just wondering if can really pull in wi-fi hot spots from up to 30 miles away.

WE received the Wi-Fire 2 days ago. So far so good. I was unable to install the cd they sent with the unit so I downloaded from their site. They are sending me out a new cd. Installation was simple even for me(I am computer illiterate). I have only used it in the house and on the porch not far from the main antenna not sure if its my imagination but things seem to work faster with this antenna. Customer support is only available during business hrs Mon-Fri but once contacted they are very helpful. I will be taking the rv down the road in a few days to test the range.

Well there is a problem with the Wi-Fire that was sent out. It worked good for a few days but then after a while it began loosing the connection over and over and reconnecting. It was explained that because my laptop was 6 years old they have to send out a different type of antenna. I am awaiting arrival of the new antenna.
