We have a 2000 CC Intrigue with a MotoSat Nomad 2 that we purchased a upgrade card for in Jan. of 2010. We have never been happy with this unit and now we are at our wits ends.
We are at the Grizzly RV park in West Yellowstone, Mt. the MotoSat just searched for 45 minutes to find the Direct TV satellite. After listening to it moan and groan and the blue lights blink on and off for 45 minutes we finally Stowed it and hooked inot the parks cable system....just like we did last night in Missoula, Mt.

Can someone PLEASE tell me what we are doing wrong??? We see these units on lots of rigs and I can't believe that they all go through what we do everyday.

This unit has never locked on quickly, usually taking at least 5 minutes but more often than not going up to 20 minutes.

We were going to upgrade the MotoSat system to their newer control box but are so upset wtih them now that we are actually looking into removing the MotaSat and switching to a Winnegard system.

Can someone give me some solid advice on what I may be doing wrong??
THANKS

I used one of there upgrade cards, with about the same results. AFTER having about what you have several years ago. I then bought the patch cord and did the upgrade from my laptop...it took and we have not had any problems since (knock on wood). The long search times would lead me to think that your upgrade did not take either. Very happy with ours and it does work well. The old backup ground dish would be out if it took that long to seek and find. :(

MotoSAT software updates need to be done from time to time. It sounds like it is time for you to do another. MotoSAT sells an update module which I highly recommend you buy as you are going to need to do these updates once or twice per year. You can then download the new software (the latest firmware for the Nomad 2/3 is 40.5) and install it to your controller. The routine only takes about 10 minutes once you have all the proper hardware/software in place.
The MotoSAT antenna is still the second best open face multi-LNB antenna on the market (there are only 2 available) and if you get the software updated you should be able to get your system operating properly again.

Bill Adams is right on the money. There have been three upgrades since you last did yours. I'm installing upgrade # 40.5 tomorrow.

We fixed it with the help of Shane at MotoSat and finally finding someone at Direct TV that could understand RV units....

We loaded the latests MotoSat upgrade (40.5) and still did not get our "normal" Seattle Channels....but saw that we were getting channels in the 300 series...calling Direct TV we lucked into a person that understood RV and Direct TV and he guided us to the correct 300 channels that would get us the networks and Fox news...

Thanks to all of you who helped us know that the MotoSat was a fixable unit...
Now I have the special cable on order so I don't have to tear the coach apart to load updatess in the future...

Aftger my previous post the Nomad 2 worked well actually finding the satallite very quickly and providing a nice clear picture. 2 days later when wanting an early moring departure the dish would not stow...waited unitl 0800 and called tech support to find a very non responsive person that told me to climb up on the roof that 1/8" of frost on it...now way!
After pushing him for info he finally told me to take the red and orange wires out of the green connector and touch the ends to a battery..."what kind of battery, I ask?" Oh a drill battery, a nine volt battery, a 12 volt battery...well the dish finally stowed when I touched the orange and red wire to a 9volt wire...this whole MotoSat thing is getting crazy...now they (MotoSat) are telling me a sensor is defective in the dish....living in Oak Harbor, WA it si not easy getting the MotoSat worked on...
Does anyone have any suggestions?
If I switch to the Winegard should I stay with Direct TV or swith to Dish...I see they have a plan that you only have to pay for the months you actually use the service...in our case tha is about 45 days per year..
Any info would be greatly appreciated..
