Hello All,
My 2001 Dynasty came with a MotoSat Mini-Dome 2200 and a RCA receiver mod # DRD-480RE.
I believe the unit was in use in the last year.
Is this particular unit still current enough to bother with. I do not have Satellite at my home I have Verizon Fios. I understand that I have to open up an account with DTV.
I have turned on the unit and it did acquire a satellite but I stopped there.
I do not have HD TVs at this time so HD is not a concern.
Any comments or suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

It sounds like that should work for you. Once you lock on, if you have everything hooked up you should be able to watch TV via satellite on channels 100, 200 or 201. These are always broadcasting commercial or user information and is used by installers to verify proper operation without having to activate the receiver.

My post on domes:
If you have a DOME then DirecTV (NOT DirecHDTV) is the best choice. Domes can see one bird, at a time, in the KU band. and all the national proramming on DirecTV is on a single (101 w) KU band bird.. HD programming is on different birds which are in different bands. so skip that. No dome does KA band at this time.
Dish Network both sd and HD are in the KU band and SOME domes can switch between 110, 119 and the HD bird (I think 127) fast enough to satisfy a single dish receiver.. However if you use 2 or more receivers or a DVR you will run into confilcts where the shows you wish to watch/record are on different birds.
And that covers it. Your dome will work with DirecTV standard service..
Next issue: Some domes are "Single" and some are "Dual" LNB, (Dish 500 antennas are called "TWIN" by the way, both single and dual are "Solo" LNB antennas (There is but one LNB, the single and dual refer to the outputs)
A Dual can run 2 or more receivers, both of which look to the same satellite.. A single... can not.
And it's that simple
Fnailly a word of advice.. Go to Google and enter the search term "Antenna Switch" Google stores has an RCA switch for two bucks as I type.
You run the line from the rooftop dome to the "A" port on said switch
A RG-6 cable to a connector in the basement or a bulkhead (feed through) or in my case a ground block mounted on the brake bracket (notice a plethora of "B" words) goes to the "B" terminal
The common (switched) port goes to the receiver
That way if you are under the evil signal eating tree..
Slap the switch, re-set the receiver and you are good to go with a ground mount. (hook it up first) then when you go to leave, Slap and reset, unhook the ground mount and .. Have fun.
