Hi,

We are looking at a new to us Allegro Bus. It has a MotoSat Internet System that consists of a .98 meter dish and controller that automatically locates and locks on to a satellite for up and down load capability to the internet through an ISP. Anybody else have an RV with something like this? Is there a subscription fee involved? Do you like it or with todays smartphones and such is this technology becoming outdated?

Many many have such systems. NOTE that it can often do eithe rDish or DirecTV with the proper modification.

Datastorm Users - The Premier Site For Mobile Satellite Internet and TV

Is the place to go for more information:

Last I checked the subscription was either 60 0f 70 per month. (the extra 10 bucks gets you way better customer support) you can also go to http://www.motosat.com For more information, user manuals and such on your system.

Normally this uses Hughesnet 2-way satellite internet.. I would recommend you try 2-way satellite before you subscribe.. The first URL you can likely connect with someone who uses it. Several RV parks also use 2-way Satellite including most Thousand Trails parks.. TT parks are now open to the public. THey use Verizon not Hughes, but the issues are... Much alike.

Not all people like 2-way Sat service. I .. Well, It's not as good as cable, but it's better than cellular in many cases (not all)

Actually, the .98 F2 dish cannot mount a BOW for Sat TV reception. Only the .75 F1 or G74/G75 work with a BOW (Bird on Wire).

I highly recommend the Datastorm Users site as well.

joe <- has a 1.2M Motosat XF3 antenna

The answers to your question I believe really depends on your travel and your requirements. We full time and have a .75 F1 Motosat dish and wouldn't be without it. We go too many places where cell service is too marginal for calls, much less data. Our service is $80 monthly, but I believe with the larger dish comes a larger monthly and the service probably differs a bit. The service is not nearly as good as the 15mg FIOS service we had at our home, but it is a lot better that most of the park wi-fi. We will often use park wi-fi if we are in the trees, but at that 7pm slow down, we usually put up our dish if it will work and use our own, that we don't have to share with everyone else. When we go into Canada & Mexico we have service when many of our travel mates do not.

What do you need, how important is it to you and how much is your budget for this type of service.

I had a Motosat for years on my Seabreeze. Got a lot of good use out of it, but also lots of headaches. Finally got rid of it and have a Mifi with an amplifier and trucker antenna. It's great.

My take on the Motosat is that it's "Not quite ready for prime-time".
