I have a Moto Sat system with a Nomad SD2 controller and I when I hit the find button nothing happens. It has power but the find button won't work. Any suggestions from folks that have this system as to how to trouble shoot it? I'm on my second contoller and am starting to think Moto Sat systems are not very well built.

Thanks

I have the same system and in 7 years I never had a problem with the controller. If I had your problem, I would start by turning off the power supply to the controller, then turn it back on. Then, I would turn on the contoller and let it go thru it's routine. Then I would run a "Test Dish" procedure and let it shut down. If the "Find" button does not work at that point, a call to Motosat would be in order. BTW, Motosat is the cadillac of dishes and I do not work for them.

We have the MotoSat with the Nomad SD controller. The SD controller is essentially the same as yours, but our SD card slot is in the back instead of the front like yours. About a year ago our controller ceased to operate like yours. And like you it happened twice. The solution in each case was to send the controller back to MotoSat, where they worked on it and sent it back to me. This is a process (as you probably already know) that takes weeks before you are able to use the dish again. Since the second fix on our controller, we have not had any problems. However, every time I do a find/search when we stop somewhere I cringe waiting to hear the dish start to do its thing.

If you haven't already you should try the troubleshooting steps that the previous poster suggested, but if your situation is like mine you will end up sending it back.

If I had to do it over again, I would not get the MotoSat antenna. In my opinion, its reliability is not that great and working with their customer service folks is not a good experience. I am sure lots of folks are happy with their MotoSat systems, but my experience is different.

Bill

Ok, the controller has been unplugged for a couple of days now so plugged it in the two blue lights lit indicating power & LNB plus the red stow was lit. Gave it some time then hit the stow and power at the same time to do the test and nothing. I'm going to pull the card and see if I can read it with the lap top. Last time I lost the unit the sd card was toast as well.

Looks like I will sending them back the controller.

Bill: When you had to send it in the second time did they cover the repair cost. I had mine installed in Oct of 09 and really haven't used it that much.

You might check to see if you have version 40.3 software. If you do, you will have to hold down the "Find" and "Store" buttons for at least 10 seconds before releasing in order for the "Test Dish" routine to start. Worth a try.
The version should be noted on the bottom of the controller.

Unfortunately the card is dead just like the last time the receiver died but I don't think I was up to that version yet.

Ours was installed in Feb. 2009. It stopped working in June 2010. I paid $75 plus shipping for the first repair. In Aug. 2010 it needed repair again. The second time I paid for only the shipping back to them and they covered the repair and shipping back to me. I didn't have to pay the second time because it was within a 90-day warranty window for the first repair.

Help with failed MotoSat!

very pleased with how our Motosat is working since Dale Morris's troubleshooting took care of the problem
What do you have to lose? A new Winegard system was going to be about $2000.

I have a T-2 Automotion..... I dropped a DirecTV receiver I'd picked up in the rig and tried to get it to lock... No joy.. But since I am not currently a Direc subcriber I did not worry much about it..

Finally had some time on my hands so started checking... Let's see what the OUTPUT voltage to the LNB is... zero.zerozero

That's not right.

Dropped in a different receiver.. locked on faster than I could tighten the nut.

Note that with the Nomad SD and SD2 controllers, if you leave the card plugged into the unit it will eventually "fill up" with data. When this happens the controller will no longer work. You should either clear the data from time to time or just leave the card out of the slot to prevent this situation.
