There was a thread about this recently and I couldn't find it, so here goes again.

My TV cabinet is at eye level when I'm sitting. My recliner is directly in back of the driver's seat and the cabinet is directly behind the passenger seat. I removed the old HEAVY analog TV and want to mount the new HDTV there. A problem is that I can't mount it against the back wall as the wall is too flimsy and is approx 18-24" from the opening of the cabinet. I want to place a mount on the base of the cabinet and then have it extend 90 degrees, so it would be in the normal position for viewing. In other words, if you are reading this on a laptop, think of it as being closed and then open it (of course you would have to turn it around and do it). That is what I'm looking for.

The earlier poster mentioned putting a 3/4" piece of plywood in the cabinet and then placing the mounts on it. However, I can't figure out if I got that right. Even if I did, I still have a hard time imagining how the plywood is attached in the cabinet or, and this is a big or, if the TV would be stable while driving.

Anyway, if anyone has any good ideas how to mount it please let me know.

I'm having a bit of trouble picturing the type of mount you're wanting to install but it sounds like we have similar entertainment system set ups in a cabinet behind the passenger seat.
I removed the boat anchor 27" Sony TV that was there with a 37" HD LCD set. I mounted it as you described using a vertical piece of 3/4" ply as a mounting base for the LCD mount. The ply board is held in place by 4 short sections of 2x4... one on each side of the top and bottom... The 2x4s are held in place with wood screws just long enough to not penetrate the top side of my entertainment system cabinet.

Where the vertical plywood mounting base is mounted on the front to back axis is critical because it determines if you have a gap between the TV and the cabinet. I played with mine until I got it positioned so when I install the set using the fixed wall mount the set has to be pressed into some 2" rubber insulation padding I installed on the cabinet. To keep the set secure during travel, I reinstalled a 2" molding strip to the cabinet just above the TV. The mount requires that the TV be "hung" onto the mount by having the tabs on the TV part of the bracket drop onto the wall mounted part of the bracket. Gravity would normally hold the set in place but the strip of molding installed after the TV is installed makes it impossible for a bump in the road to dislodge the set. We've got about 30,000 miles on this set up and it's never had a hiccup.

Good Luck...

Rick
