What do y'all do?
If you already have a dish box (rented) in your stick home, do you just take the box out to the RV?
Or, if you can purchase a satellite box and just take the smart card out of the rented box for the time you need it?
Or, just pay monthly for the extra box in the RV?
I am talking for Dish network only if that matters.
Thanks, Ricky

I pulled two from the house and hooked them up in the RV.
The problem I found was you can't run both off of the same sat. dish.
I got on Craigs List and found a portable with a tripod, The front unit is off the roof dish and the back bedroom is off the one fron CL.
If it's raining (I live and make short trips in Wash) we only have the front.
Finding the sat. is a pain, but I always have TV. Dish has a locater built in.

Once you get it set up it only cost me $5 a month to keep my 311 receiver turned on all the time in the MH. It's my unit, not leased. I have a HD/DVR in the house.

I bought a receiver (about $90) and keep it in the MH all of the time. I added it to my account and pay an extra $5 per month. I may be wrong, but I believe the smart card is matched to one receiver and can't be moved from one to another.

I have Dish at home with two boxes that will operate two tv sets with two different programs. Have taken one of the boxes in MH that last 4 years. Has worked all over the country. No home (Mich) local channels, but everything else. In Florida (3 months), I use a stationary dish and when on the move, use the in motion sat. dish.

Whenever we hit the road, I just unplug the dish box in the house and carry it down to trailer. I used color tape to color code the connector locations on the back of the box with the cables that hook up to them to make it easier/quicker to hook the box back up. Just get a separate dish antenna to leave in the RV for traveling.

Thanks for the great info..
That is what I was planning, and since we don't get to travel a lot, there is no sense to pay anything extra for another box.
I have used my HD receiver in my RV and it does work well.
Thanks again,
Ricky

We use the same DVR box in our house and RV. We just move it so theoretically we can seamlessly keep recording our shows and watch the ones we have already recorded. But what actually happens is the box works fine when you move it. However, the shows that we have scheduled to record seem to get erased and you need to program that in again. At least that is what happens to us.

The Dish ViP-722 receiver is a dual input receiver. Using a King Dome, or a tripod with Dual LNB, you can watch two different televisions on independent channels at the same time. Or, you can watch a playback that has been recorded and record two programs. You only need one receiver with the ViP-722. (And some other different combination)
I use the Winegard Carry-Out but I only watch one tv at a time.

We have a VIP 622 that supports 1 HD and a second SD TV simultaneously.
The 622 is moved to the coach and connected to the front TV, which is HD, and to the bedroom TV, which is SD. We can watch both TVs on different channels, watch recorded TV on both TVs, watch current programming on one TV and watch recorded TV on the other. There is a lot of flexibility doing this and both of us are happy.
The only downside is that we have to move the receiver from the house to the coach and back. It is easy to do but just one more thing we have to do.
By the way, we have the satillite dish that supports three LNBs and HD and it works perfectly.
We just received a "gift" from Dish for a second HD DVR at no cost as long as we agree to continue service for at least 24 months. I will call them tomorrow and check it out. We might just be able to have two DVRs withone in the house and one in the coach.... or we might have two in the house and move one back and forth to the coach...... or we might......
All in all the Dish setup works very well.
Chuck

We bought a 722 specifically for the RV. My wife records a lot of shows at home, so I transfer them to an external hard drive (one time $40 fee) and bring it along. She can watch her shows (live or recorded) and I can watch my sports.

Most folks just take the receiver.. You can pick up a new antenna (Dish) from Craig's list or from assorted other places.. A tripod (Radio Shack, Lowes, Home Depot) and mast (2" from the last two) and some RG-6 (All 3) and you have what you need.
NOTE: the Cable TV inlet on your RV is NOT a satellite input, the cable is the wrong type for one thing and there is usually electronics in the line which blocks the sat from working unless you modify. I recommend putting in a new cable for the sat.
Now: the issue:
Network stations (your local broadcast channels) are "Spot Beamed" A spot beam is kind of like a spot light in a theater. .If you travel outside the beam.. You are.. Well.. in the dark.
RV accounts qualify for "Distant Network Service"
DNS, is selected stations (NYC or LA) on what is called a ConUS beam (Contential US) think of it as a theater floodlight, The entire stage (US of A) is light up by this one.
But your home.... Very likely.... Does not qualify.

KJburns - How do you get recorded shows off the DVR and on to an ex drive? How do you get the DVR to "talk" to the drive? Sounds like a great way to do it.
