Multiple satellite receivers

I am a direct tv subscriber. I have a 2010 Winnebago Suncrusier that has a satellite connection for an outside dish. My question is if I set up a dish can I use a second box for the bedroom tv and be able to watch different programming on either the main tv or the bedroom tv? I would think that a roof mounted dish would be the same?

not quite sure your question and don't want to guess what you meant... most domes and dishes have more than 1 terminal, mine has rf1 and rf2. depending on your receivers and your wiring, watching two different programs on same or separate receiver(s) is yes and no.

i have one dome and one portable dish. when i use dome i use one receiver; when i use the portable dish i use another receiver. between front tv and bedroom tv, i set up the way i can only watch the same program on either tv.

The answer to your question is YES. If you get what is called a SWM dish, you can feed up to 4 recievers through one cable. Depending on what receivers you want to use, you may have to upgrage the receivers to SWM models.

I have an automatic Winegard Travler SWM dish on my roof, and two HR24 HD DVR receivers in the coach. His and hers. Each receiver can watch and/or record two programs at once, or watch a pre-recorded show while recording two others.

I do have SWM boxes. If i get the swim dish, can I switch the tv inputs through the switch box or do I need to re-wire? I'm thinking I need to redo the bedroom connection to the tv to add the box. The main tv should be straightforward. If I can figure out how to take the tv down to access the inputs.

The signal coming from a SWM dish can be split, but only by a special kind of splitter. You will definitely not be able to use your existing switch box. It's not a difficult setup but you will probably have to run some new cable.

Recently upgraded my coach's DirecTv SD equipment to HD. Started by replacing the King-Dome 9702 with a Winegard Trav'Ler SlimLine 3 (SWM), and 2 Samsung Sat Receivers with DTV HR20-700 DVR, and 2 H25-100's (bedroom & basement). The attached configuration diagram also shows how I blended RV Park cabing input with my Batwing/Jack antenna over the air (OTA). The best result was eliminating that @#$%^&* Switch Box that was always a pain in the butt.

Thanks for the diagram. It looks like you added additional coax cables to each tv? If I use an HD dish on a tripod and run it into the satellite connection what will I get? I have a connection in the main TV cabinet for a satellite box. Would that get me HD for that tv if I use the standard connections? Also, will the @&#%^$ box feed the satellite programming to the other TVs?

The manuals I have don't offer much information.

I should have said that I have Direct TV boxes with the SWM dish at home and intend to bring my home boxes with us.

Had to run 2 addition RG6 Coaix Cables from the 3 way splitter (upfront) to the bedroom & basement TV's Coax input so I can get RV Park Cable & OTA (Jack Antenna). The upfront TV OTA/RV Park is fed thru the OTA Coax input port on the DTV HR20-700 DVR, i.e., a "Pass Thru." All 3 TV's receive DTV HD input via DTV Sat Receivers via HDMI cables.

Hi John. I'm glad I found this thread...we're also contemplating the DirecTV HD setup and had a quick question. From your diagram and text, it looks like I would need the slimline dish and SWM (controller??) and can use my home DTV receiver if I'd like, correct? I'm just curious what performs the auto-dish setup with the satellite (i.e., the receiver or the SWM)? Your drawing otherwise looks straight forward (coax from SWM to the receivers and HDMI to the TVs). Sound about right?

Thanks for any insight!

Yep

The Winegard Controller/Control Box, don't even need the TV's on. Go to the Winegard website, it has very good pics/explanation.

You got it

Thanks for any insight!

Annnnnnnnnnnd for all things Satellite TV, recommend DBSTalk
