I am having so much fun with my wife's Dell 1501 laptop, that she hardly gets to use it. I repartitioned the drive to add PCLinuxOS to the original Windows XP. The Linux set up nicely and recognizes all the internal hardware including the WiFi and dual-core CPU. I use Linux almost exclusively for email and surfing without worrying about bad stuff or the overhead and expense of anti-badstuff software. If the system ever does get corrupted, I will just reinstall PCLOS, which was a free download to start with.
I just discovered a neat application called KDE Bookreader. I can download a text file of a public domain book from Project Gutenberg, and it displays in my choice of font and size on a two-page format on the wide screen. Just click to flip the page. All for free (or donation).
Gotta get back to "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court." Too much fun!

two2go, couldn't agree with you more about the Linux issue. I went the Mac OSX route but if I had a Windows laptop laying around I wouldn't hesitate to go the Linux route. Sure is nice not to mess around with firewall and adware and spyware and virus definitions and the list goes on

I downloaded Ubantu a few weeks ago. Haven't installed yet but certainly has got my interest.
