Hey, Im not a computer guy and dont pretend I am, but we all would like our computers to run faster.

My friend and I recently had to take our laptop computers to a computer guy to correct some things- wireless problem for me and 45 virus issues for Joe. He fixed us both up and set our computers for faster service. I am running XP and VISTA systems on my two computers.

Here is how he did it. It worked good for both of us. Some things will be different, for one, the amount of icons (less) on the bottom bar. Please let us know if it works for you- You can always change it back-

-- Go to start button (lower left corner)

-- Go to "(my) Computer"- then right click

-- Click on "Properties"

-- Click on "Advanced system settings"

-- Click on "Continue" if it shows up-

-- Click on "Performance settings"

-- Click on "Custom"

-- "Check" the bottom two items, or, delete all checks except the last two items. They are:
- "Use drop shadows-----"
- "Use visual styles-----"

-- Click on "Apply"

-- Click on "Okay"

I would say that I'm about 10-15 % faster on both of my computers -

Max, Thanks! How much RAM are you running in the Vista machine? An infusion of RAM will speed things up as well.

My desktop( XP home) has nothing checked but the "best performance" circle.

Driver-

I've got 4GB ram on my Vista laptop.

It runs good, but I suffer from marginal internet connectivity during bad weather (people staying home), school kids coming home and maxing out the bandwidth doing homework. I find this problem all over in my travels. Have to pick my times to get on the "net" .

Every little bit helps-

The internet is a "time share." The more people using it the slower it will be.
