We were camping at Stephen Foster State Park last week and it being over 150 miles from home I couldn't get my local channels on Direct . I thought I should be able to get the network channels from either Gainsville, Jacksonville or Tallahassee. But during the day I could only get a couple of channels over my regular TV antenna with the converter box. Then at night I could get a few more. But nothing very good, they would come and go. Is there a better amplifier for my antenna? At present I have the Wingard type with the little button you push and the light that comes on. But at the present time I really think this new system stinks and has a lot to be desired.

Welcome to digital TV. You will find that over the air reception is very directional, you must point the Winegard batwing at the stations to receive them. In Bardstown you would have to point it almost due north to receive channels out of Louisville. Have you installed the Winegard Wingman on your batwing? If not, it will help a fair amount with reception issues. As to local channels on Direct TV, they are only spot beamed in your local area. Much over 200 miles away and you are out of the beam. You can call Direct and get a national network package for extra $$ added to your account and then you would be able to receive the major networks out of New York or LA.

We replaced our br TV with a digital and left the front one as is requiring the digital box. At best the channels were marginal as digital is pretty finicky. What I did was buy a booster for the Wineguard from CW and it helped both TV's tremendiusly.. Here's a link to what we bought.

For all your reception and antenna pointing needs: AntennaWeb

Enter location and select 'single story' to get the best list of stations and the compass heading to point your antenna too...

Winegard has an add on for your motorhome antenna. It just snaps on under the current antenna. It really strengthened my reception. Your MH antenna can still fold down when not in use.

In the Los Angeles area we get about 65 over the air channels with our winegard with wingman and converter box. Some are even in "English" .
