I just bought a Mercury Mariner with the factory CD-based Nav system. Is it just me or are these a piece of junk? I've had a TomTom GPS in my truck for a few years and it is centuries ahead of this factory unit.

I'd like to hear what you think.

I've used the ones in the rental cars and have never been very successful (perhaps because it's different than my own). While I think my Garmin 2620 is outstanding, one of the best features is that it is portable from the MH to the Toad to our pickup . . . rarely go anywhere without it!

My Grand Cherokee has a factory unit, it's ok but I don't think I'd do it again. Makes too many mistakes routeing you the long way around. You always get there it's just a matter of when.

Hondo,
Is that an American Bulldog on your post?

I don't know about errors yet, but just for a test I set my house as "Home", and my daughters house as a "Destination". The system then decided I was currently at her house (can you spell 'GPS') and was routing me from her house back to where my vehicle was located!

I had plans to Ebay my TomTom, good old 'Lola', but no way now.

Regrettably one is forced to use several different devices/programs to find the most suitable route for your travels...

I usually start with MS Streets and Trips on the laptop with a "pre-trip" and then I use the Pioneer Z1 in the coach and fine tune between the two...I've also heard favorable reviews about the Co-Pilot products.

For ease of use in my toad,I use the C340 Garmin...

Yes Zeus is definately an American Bulldog. He's a great dog. The GC system takes me on a tour of my neighborhood everytime I use it to get home. It does constantly correct the route, but always wants to take me in a loop to the front door.
