I presently run a KingDome dual LNB in-motion satellite dome. It feeds a pair of DirecTV TIVO based DVRs, which require dual inputs in order to record one channel while watching another. One DVR is up front and the second DVR is in the bedroom, feeding the back TV. I am using a 2x4 multiswitch to feed the signals to each set and everything works well.
I then expanded my system to allow a dual LNB remote dish to feed the system whenever the KingDome can't get a lock because trees are in the way. I ran two more RG6 coax lines from the basement shore power compartment up into the coach. I installed a pair of A/B switches to select either the external feed or the KingDome. I use this a lot at home because my coach is parked next to the trees and the KingDome can't get a signal. I have an 18x24 oval dish at home and have installed a 2x8 multiswitch in the house and send two of the outputs to my RV pedestal, where I can plug into the RV to feed it a signal. This works well, too.
The problem is that I have a new motorhome coming and would like to replace the two A/B switches with something automatic. I picked up a Channel Master CM6904IFD 4x4 multiswitch to install instead of a 2x4 multiswitch. My initial thought is that I can feed the two KingDome outputs as well as the two remote outputs to the 4x4 multiswitch, which will then output them to the two DVRS.
But, now that I am reading the directions, I'm not so sure that the 4x4 will work. It looks like it's designed to switch between multiple dishes, but each dish should be looking at a different, unique bird. I know that the DVR sends a voltage signal to switch between satellites but the instructions are confusing to me because I don't fully understand how this stuff works and the diagrams don't show my type of installation.
So, will this setup work? If not, is there another way to replace the A/B switches with something more automatic?
