Our new to us moho came with a Dish 1000 satellite dish and receiver with a dvd player too.
The unit has front and rear tv's, we had Camping World put in a selector box to make it easier to use and it works OK.
My question is that we want to change the satellite receiver out to the pay as you go unit offered by Camping World
and wonder if this receiver is "mine" as it was in the moho when it was purchased or does it "belong to" Dish?
It will operate to the subscribe channel info place so I know it works but we do not want full time service.
The pay as you go will be more what we want and I would like to sell this receiver unit if that is "legal" to do.
Any info would be appreciated.

I would not change it... IF you are no longer under contract, or if you have not yet signed a contract with DISH.. Check to see if your existing receiver is clear of any encrumbances (Unpaid balance) and if it is ask Dish to activate *IT* on the pay as you go plan... Now they may give you flack.. If they do... Give them a phone number.

1-888-777-2454 (That is the phone number of DirecTV) and see if they soften their stance on what you want.

As to the receiver CW sells.. I truly do not know who owns it.

I have the one camping world sells, a vp211k or something like that, bought it this past september. I can assure you that I own it, though it is of no use unless I call up dish, pay em some money, and ask themn to activate it.

This is likely not an option as the Pay As You Go plan from Dish Network requires a specific receiver (VIP211K). I suspect the poster knows this and knows he needs a new receiver.

The receiver is yours and you do not need to return it to Dish Network. They have no idea that you have it if it came with the RV. You can buy the new VIP211K receiver and install it, activate the service and all is well.
DirecTV does not have a similar service and depending upon your antenna type it might not be DirecTV compatible anyway.
You say you have a Dish 1000 antenna. Is this a Winegard or MotoSAT open face automatic roof mounted system? If is it is designed specifically for that service. If it is a dome antenna it can be setup for either service.

It is the Winegard Traveler 1000 unit that does a breakdance routine when activated.
The receiver that is in the moho does not support the "pay as you go" feature from what we were told.
The program requires a first month of 30 days and after that a month charge is made,
but can be used in increments of a day to whatever you decide,
after that "30 day month" is used another is billed and so it goes.
This appeals to us as we are not full timers but may use the unit three of four weekends a month.
So I am wanting to figure if the receiver in the unit at this time is mine to sell or if it must be returned.

The receiver is yours to sell as long as the previous owner paid his bill and you are welcome to sell it. You can call Dish Network to confirm that the receivers status.
As to the PAYG plan, you can turn it on for 30+ days but if you turn it off for a period you must sign up for at least 30 days again so if you turn the service on an off after each weekend trip you will still pay for 3-4 months worth of service. That's still better than a full year but possibly not as cheap as you had expected.

Not sure I'm following that?

The pay as you go is a month to month. You call them up and pay for thirty days of whatever package you choose, they activate the receiver, and it works for 30 days. At 27 days, it starts reminding you it is going to shut down in X days.

On the 30th day(end of the month?), it shuts off.

The next time you call them, you get another month.

never a part of a month, or an "incrememnt of a day"
And it doesn't autorenew. If you don't call, it shuts off.

Bill & Jim,
We are looking into this, there has been conflicting info that has been presented.
Thanks for your input, as it is not the favorable it is likely the actual, drat more of the too good to be true stuff.
At any rate it may be the probable way to go for us.

If you have Service at your stick house, you can always take a rcvr from the house to the RV. We did that for several years with DirecTV. We're now full time so have all our rcvrs with us and a SlimLine HD Automatic Dish on the roof.

The plot thickens...it turns out we have a dual zone receiver to watch different channels on our two TV's with our satellite.
So we have declined at the moment to have the "Pay as you go" unit installed,
it would require two receivers and another $5.00 charge a month.
We will have to evaluate whether to just go with the regular service or do this
pay as you go thing with one unit.
I can not believe the Dish Network people would not have a setup for our situation as it must be fairly normal that two TV's in an RV is a regular occurrence.
Oh well back to the drawing board.
I appreciate those who piped up with good pertinent info that has bumped us along the path to make better decisions.

2 receivers that you only pay for when you need then (3-5 months) is still cheaper than paying for one receiver that requires that you pay for 7-9 months of service while the receiver sits unused. You are correct to consider re-evaluating, but be sure that you keep the total expenses on the board. How much do you want TV (other than what might or might not be available with your OTA antenna) and how much are you willing to pay to ensure that you get it?
We are full timers so sat. TV is an absolute must. This is likely not the case for most part timers but it certainly will likely be a want. If you or your spouse considers not having a TV a non-starter then getting the service speaks for itself.
