Has anyone used a small netbook with MS streets and trips with the GPS? How well does it work? Looking at the requirements for streets and trips, a 1GB processor is the minumin. I did a search but was not able to tell anything.
Thank you.

I have used my netbook as a screen for MS streets. It worked great!. Nice big screen compared to my regular GPS. The only problem I had was keeping it upright and not moving around on the dash. I have a Dolphin and there is a nice well for the netbook to sit in on the dash, but it still moves around some. I bought a GPS antenna on either Ebay or CraigsList and it was easy to set up. Good Luck.

Steve

So, how do you guys get the resolution right? on my netbook the Street @ Maps screen is larger than the netbook screen and I can't see everything displayed on the screen. I have a MSI Netbook, maybe it's a problem with my netbook...

I just mounted my HP Netbook on the dash using a Ram mount and plan to use it for both S&T GPS and Silverleaf VMSPC.

Gawd... I love gadgets!

The resolution on mine was wrong as well. What wasn't on the screen I didn't miss, it was all usable even with the missing bits. http://www.amazon.com/DeLorme-Street-Atlas-USA-2010/dp/B002EAYJFG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=software&qid=1279287851&sr=8-1 has a netbook mode and works real well. It uses standard GPS devices even the one that comes with MS Streets.

Thank you all. Based on the slow speed and the resolution issues, I am going with a small laptop instead of a netbook.

I use a refurbished 9" EeePC with an old Garmin GPS-V feeding it the signal through a serial to USB converter. I run the free Garmin nRoute application on the notebook. It's a real kluge setup of semi and fully obsolete stuff and it works great. Even talks to me in a nice feminine voice (well, she is a bit curt when I miss a turn). I use velcro strips to hold the EeePC on the dash directly in front of me but below my line of vision (duh!). A touch screen would be neat, but the netbook does the job. I just need to remember which function key to press for different views. Oh yeah, the Eee has a solid state drive so it has no problems when I hit a hard bump.

I use a Acer Aspire Netbook with 2 GB ram and Windows XP for Streets and trips. You reset the resolution in the Control Panel>>Display. You can also adjust the screen size presented by holding the Control key and scrolling the mouse thumb wheel.

The one issue you will have is shielding the screen to keep it from washing out.

Just completed our first leg with Streets and Trips running on the dash mounted Net Book. DW got the resolution ok and used "navigation" view. 2/3 of the screen was the rolling map with our location and the bottom 1/3 was directions for upcoming turns in large, easy to read print.

I tried the Streets and Trips GPS years ago. Made it halfway home, and threw the thing out on a gas stop.

Now I run the Garmin GPS through my laptop. I'm using the GPS-18 that is about 3 years old at this point. I need to drop the $60 on the new version, but we've since picked up a pair of 4.3" units that do a lot of our dirty work as well. It's oddly addictive to drive with 2 GPS' going at the same time.

I have the netbook and jumped the RAM upto 2GB, i run both the Garmin GPS and the VMSPC at the same time, no isssues at all. Just need to find a good mount, the only choice i have is going thru the floor with a pedestal. Right now I use a homemade console which also acts as a tray for snaks and othe items.
