This is what I always thought. Even though we purchased our DVR from Best Buy for $99, I thought we were still paying to lease it. However, one day I was looking at our bill online, I saw they were charging us a $5 lease fee, then on the next line of the bill there was a $5 credit. The $5 credit every month paid for the $99 purchase price in 20 months.

Also, when we replaced our DVR last year because it was acting up, we purchased the replacement from Best Buy as well. I was expecting to have to return the old DVR to DTV. However, DTV said it was mine and I could do anything I wanted with it. I kept the remote as a spare, and pitched the DVR.

When my Winegard ASC2003 started acting up (as they all apparently do) my dealer go my extended wty plan to credit >$1700 in parts and labor toward installation of the new HD Travelr dish. I was one happy camper and have only gotten happier using this dish every day since then.

I have found that the new LCD TVs can actually deliver a pretty disappointing picture in SD but once the HD flip is thrown, all that changes.

If you do not want to pay the $99, go onto Craig's List. You will find HD receivers, some recording, for anywhere from $10 - $50. If you are only looking for a newer receiver, this would be an inexpensive way to go.

I put in the HD receiver this weekend. As mentioned earlier, the difference was not huge, but it was an improvement. I am very happy with it because I have the best pic I can get without spending for the full HD. I would say I'm seeing a 15-20% improvement. Of course that is completely subjective. Another nice benefit, only one cable running from box to TV. Again, I know thats small but since my TV now sits on the front side of the cabinet, every little bit helps!

A couple of wierd things on the setup, I actually had to select the 20 inch slimline and the multiple lnb to get it to see the signal, why? I don't know, but it worked. It should have been the 18 round with single LNB but it wouldn't recognize the signal.
