New DISH Hopper & Wally

Looks like a new Hopper and Hopper-like VIP211 receivers coming to January's CES.

Didn't see anything that sounds like this in today's Dish announcements at CES.

From what a tech stated today, the Wally is scheduled to be released in late August. I asked about the inability in using an external hard drive to offload recorded programs from a Hopper to be played on a ViP211z, he stated that should be a capability on the Wally.

The Dish website has dumped the 211z and replaced it with the Wally...calling it the ViP-211w.

Oddly, the discontinued 211k is listed on the comparison there.

BTW...it's already being offered for sale...no waiting 'till August.

I don't really see the benefit of the Wally over the 211z.

Technology moves forward, things get better and cheaper.

The latest generation Hopper 3 and Wally run much cooler and use much less AC power. For example the Hopper 3 draws well under 40 watts, even though it's a 2 Terabyte Hard Drive DVR and powers the Dish LNB. It also has a faster processsor allowing a improved user interface that is very snappy. Also has built in WiFi for connecting to Internet without a wired Ethernet connection.

At home, I've had the Hopper 3 w/Sling and Joey since Feb and see much improvement over the older Hopper. Just don't see dumping my 211z in favor of the Wally.
