New Full Timer-Which SatelliteV ????????

I just sold the Sticks and Bricks Home and after buying a 40 foot DP '06 Holiday Rambler, we are ready to go.
We have dealt with all the issues that seemed to be important and will deal with the others as they jump up to scare us to death.
Right now I am dealing with the TV programs, which satelite ?
We have had Direct TV for a number of years, but they require you to have a real house somewhere, Dish requires you buy a $399 carry out antenna.
I have an automatic Winegard on the roof, but they will not install to that antenna.
That leaves me with Hughes which I have helped a few of out traveling friends to try and get setup and have failed because the signal is spotty and not always around.
What now ?????
What is everyone using and how happy are you with it????? Ideas would help too
Thanks in advance
Larry and Rita

Congrats and best of luck on the plan to go FullTime.

As far as the SAT goes, someone has been lying to you...comments below:

We have had Direct TV for a number of years, but they require you to have a real house somewhere;
Both companies need a physical address for billing...
Direct will give you an account for your RV, they just don't have the RV Perks that Dish has (like: Pay as you go and getting DNS very easily)
Dish requires you buy a $399 carry out antenna.
A $399 antenna (guessing the "Tailgater") is not required nor is any portable/carryout required. The receiver will connect to your Winegard rooftop and hopefully all the wiring is intact.
I have an automatic Winegard on the roof, but they will not install to that antenna.
There is really no "installation" that you need a tech for an RV (especially to an automatic antennea). Just get the receiver and plug it into the existing wires.
That leaves me with Hughes which I have helped a few of out traveling friends to try and get setup and have failed because the signal is spotty and not always around.
I think Hughes Net and DirectTV are the same company. But now, Hughes does internet and Direct does the TV

So, here's what you could do first...
If you have the 3 LNB rooftop Dish, look at the logo on the dish to see what service it was made for (there are engineering differences that requires the right dish for the service).

If you have the single LNB Dish, you can go with either carrier.

I have Dish - It was easy to use with my original Winegard rooftop Crank-up and lately I HAVE acquired the Tailgater (it AutoAims/Syncs to all 3 Dish SAT's/and changes automatically)...BTW the Tailgater is ONLY $149 for new subscribers ($399 for existing subscribers) so maybe that is a way to go at first(?)

So then all you gotta do is pick your service package.

Who is "they"?

You have several options . . .

- A Winegard Travler SK-1000 (Dish HD) can be converted to a DirecTV SK-3003 (DirecTV SD) or . . .

- A Winegard SK-3005 (DirecTV HD) can be converted to a Dish SK-1000 (Dish HD).

- Use the Travler you have as is.

Personally, I'd want HD on the road -- be it Dish or DirecTV.

Finally, since you're harping about buying a $399 Dish antenna, you now have a $1200 - $1500 automatic sat antenna on your RV roof. Make sure you use it.

You didn't mention which model Winegard you already have and that can make a difference.

However, if I didn't have a stick house, I think I would seriously consider Dish... although I don't think it's true that DirecTv requires you to actually have a stick house. A trip to any authorized mobile DTV dealer would probably get you on line in no time.

Best of luck.

Rick

what needs to be installed?

get a dish reciever.
connect it to the antenna on your roof.
Turn it on, run check switch a couple times, then download the program guide.
It will tell you you are not authorized to watch anything, and suggest you call 1800-333-dish
call 1800-333-dish and open an RV account.
