New HDTV won't get HD on cable...?

I have a 2005 Winnebago Journey 39F. Recently I had the old Sony removed and a 32" LCD TV installed. The new TV will receive HD from the Winegard roof antenna, but no RV Park cable will deliver HD. I talking about perhaps a dozen RV Parks in four states.

Could the problem be the black box with all the buttons on it (e.g. "cable tv," "sat tv," "vcr," etc.)?

Or am I perhaps failing to make some initial "setup" adjustment. I have reviewed the owner's manual, the CD instructions and spent countless hours looking for some clue.

Can anyone offer help for this frustration? It's an LG brand TV. Thanks!

Are you going through the channel scan each time?

Yes, BCooke, I run the channel scan each time we set up. The TV seems to pick up all the channels but at times it will not scroll uniformly (e.g there may be 32 channels indicated and as I scroll up it will go from 16 back to channel 2. If I push "17" it will continue scrolling up to 32...weird).

The TV can not receive what is not there.. Cable TV (Park Cable) Comes in two flavors and the TV has to be TOLD in many cases which to look for.

HDTV is only there if you can get DIGITAL TV from park cable,, IF all you see are analog channels (And there are still analog only cable systems) That is NTSC (The joke is "Never Twice Same Color" actually National Television Standards Committee) and "Standard Def"

OTA HD is ATSC (American Television Standards Committee) And can be either SD or HD depending on the source material.

Cable Digital is about 3 different standards (may be more) and again, anything goes Deff wise.

I know in my sticks & bricks home, digital cable is one price & HD cable is a higher price. I'm guessing, but it sounds like the cable you're getting at some of those campgrounds isn't HD cable.

Lori has the answer, you have to subscribe to get it...sorry. At least you know there's nothing technically wrong.

I agree with what several others have said - I have yet to see a campground with HD cable. It has all been SD. If you want HD other than OTA, I would advise looking into satellite.

Ditto. I do think I've seen maybe two in all our travels but it's rare because (as Lori indicated) it's usually a premium offering at a higher price.... just like satellite.

I have to agree also.

Just in case you're not aware of it, when you get the non HD channel/service and you'd rather have the entire screen used, you can change that. I have to assume all HDTV's have an "Aspect Ratio" (all mine do) on the remote. Pushing that will cycle through several screen sizes.

New HDTV won't get HD on cable...?

Thank you all for your responses. I learned a lot. I had no idea that major RV parks such as Oasis (Las Vegas) and LazyDays (Tucson) did not provide HD in their cable service and I have never seen offered nor been asked if I wanted to upgrade to HD.

On occasion I do employ the "aspect ratio" and enlarge the picture to fit the screen. But, as you know, this sometimes results in cutting off the tops of heads, etc.

I am resting easier knowing that nothing is wrong with my new TV or in-house cable system.

By the way Don/Lou, I don't have the model # but the new TV is an HDTV LCD
Digital 32" LG, 1080 x ???? (not the 780 x 1080, or whatever it is). The new TV delivers a great picture.

Thanks again,
