New member DirecTV?

I just put a deposit down on a 2016 Berkshire 38A...I cancelled the dome that came with it and ordered a Direct TV Traveler that supports 2 tuners. Will I be able to watch different channels on multiple tvs or is there something else I
Need to do? Thanks in advance for all the wonderful information on here.

With your second post:

The dish will be able to feed 2 receivers...2 receivers means you can watch and/or record different programs off the SAT at the same time.

A bigger question might be how the input/output of the receivers will be sent around the coach. Like, did Forest River acknowledge the difference in cables needed from the roof to the interior for a dual receiver dish?

For specifics, you may want to ask questions about installation/connections for the recievers in your type of RV at the Forest River Owner's Forum:
Forest River Owners Forum - iRV2 Forums

Best luck and Congrats on the new RV.

Do you know if your Traveler has the SWM feature built in? I'm betting it does if it's the new Traveler. You'll have to run the feed from the dish through a splitter and then to two different DirecTV receivers if you want to watch two channels simultaneously.

Personally I would rather (and do have) the DirecTV Genie and the RFMogul Eagle 2 sat antenna system. OK...actually I have an older RFM-4100 system with the Genie but the new system actually includes a GPS receiver to quickly aim the antenna. You only need one coax into the coach for the controller and then Genie will feed as many TVs as you want and wirelessly if you wish. The new system is designed and built in the US where as my system was built in Korea and tech support form Korea is pretty bad.

The Genie allows totally independent viewing choices for each TV and can record 5 programs at one time. My wife loves it and that is the best part. LOL Actually I like it too because I don't have to watch every freaking rerun of Murder She Wrote.

LNJ,
Well I think it is obvious by now that there are a number of different ways to watch DirecTV. And a lot of it has to do with what you already own and what you to accomplish. It looks like the Traveler is a "sunk" decision so I will go from there.

As noted earlier, you really need to know if your Traveler is a SWM setup or not. SWM is a technology that stacks 8 different "channels" on your coax setup. So you only need one coax to each receiver (even if it is a Genie with 5 tuners in it.) Given that it is going on a 2016 coach, I would imagine that you have the SWM setup (but you need to confirm this). The fact that you talk about two coax cables is a bit of a concern.

You made no mention of what type of receivers you intend to use. I personally prefer having a DVR so that we can record shows when we are away from the RV and watch them at our convenience.

If you do not have a SWM setup the most advanced DVR you can purchase/lease is an HR24. And you will have to use both coax connectors to the receiver if you want to record something while you are watching an on-air broadcast at the same time. Again, if you have SWM you only need the one coax connection.

If you do have SWM then you open yourself up to leasing an HR34 or HR44 (Genie receivers) that have 5 tuners in them and can record up to 5 different programs when you are away and can still record 4 other channels while you are watching one channel live. If having a DVR is not in your wheel house you can lease an H25 receiver that is uniquely small and will fit just about anywhere.

I think these are your best options from your current base.

Hope this helps,
Bob

The Direct TV Traveler will support 4+ receivers. I have one.

Q. How many TVs does the TRAV’LER support?

A. With the DIRECTV SWM TRAV’LER, you can watch different programs on separate televisions with up to four single-tuner or two dual-tuner receivers being supported with the provided parts; if you buy the 8-way DIRECTV splitter, up to 8 tuners will be supported (with regular receivers using one tuner and DVRs using Two tuners).

Q. How many receivers can be connected to each TRAV’LER antenna?

A. The DIRECTV SWM TRAV’LER antenna includes a 4-way splitter, which easily allows connection of up to 4 receivers, including DVRs; DIRECTV also offers 8-way splitters, which would easily allow up to 8 receivers. The DIRECTV SWM TRAV’LER antenna is limited to a total of 8 tuners with regular receivers using 1 tuner and DVRs using 2 tuners. The Genie DVR will use five tuners.

Providers, Receivers & Usage

    • Compatible Satellite Providers: DIRECTV SD & HD

Even if the Traveler is not a SWM version it can be updated with a kit available from Winegard.

It's a brand new coach. DirecTV hasn't made the non-SWM DirecTV Trav'ler for several years now.
