Something is just now hitting the market that has the potential to alleviate wiring and receiver headaches for us RV'ers. DirecTV is introducing their HR 34 receiver with RVU technology. When combined with RVU-enabled TV's (currently only being offered by Samsung) this single receiver will provide live satellite and/or recorded programming to up to 4 sets via ethernet, wired or wireless, with each set behaving as though it had its own receiver. An inline SWM or antenna with integrated SWM is required.

We have three Samsungs in the house and two in the mh, I'll have to check them and see if they have the RVU feature. I'm betting only the last two do as they were bought less than 4 months ago. But then again, there are many models out there so maybe not.

Lot's of buzz about this on SatGuysUS. Sounds great but some folks looking into it are not so sure. The box is very scarce right now and the monthly fees are higher. The idea of only one receiver with one wire to a capable TV is enticing. It does use SWM which will not work with non-SWM LNB's. That means a no-go for a Trav'ler.

According to this link from Winegard the Traveler can be connected to a SWM.

I should have been more specific although I did state it will not work with a non-SWM LNB. The Trav'ler is non-SWM. The link above is for old-school SWM using the old LNB's. New SWM has been moved to the LNB for HD SL3s and SL5s Slimline heads. The LNB must have a separate approved power supply and there may other gotchas with the Trav'ler. New SWM uses one wire from the LNB and each tuner requires only one wire after being split by an approved splitter. New SWM carries eight discrete channels from the LNB. Each tuner takes a channel. DVR's have two tuners.

That said, it shouldn't be that hard to mod around it.

I would worry about DirecTV not being able to provide the hardware. As it is now, they cannot keep up with supplying their wireless kits for DIRECTV CINEMA Connection. Without the kits, there's NO on demand, NO pay per view, NO movies [other than HBO & so on], and NO iPhone nor NOMAD connections.
