Now for cell phone advice, check out the AT&T prepaid plan. Good for Canada, US and Mexico. I recently switched, used voip.ms to port my old number and then forwarded that to my new AT&T number.

Texts are a little inconvenient. Working on getting people to either text the new number or switch to Whatsapp.

Unlimited text & talk with 8GB of data is US$40/month. I believe unlimited data was $75.

We use a AT&T hot spot from Walmart and Shaw Direct on the roof (Wingard auto dish). Shaw will be around for years since the satellites are owned by the Canadian Government and no one wants to throw away a 20 million dollar satellite so they put up another one to supplement the current 2. Go with Shaw but don't tell them that you are using it in the south.

We are from Canada and went with Telus phone plan and their data plan which can be used cross border phone and data at no additional cost We also belong to fmca and they offer a Sprint wireless hub for $50 a month, unlimited 4-3 g.

Jcm. The Canadian gov.does not want Shaw to have users in the USA. Trudeau is always barking about media rights. The crtc does not want us books. Music or tv in. Canada so they certainly are not going to encourage Shaw to provide service in the USA. But it will be technology that kills the signal in the USA. The new Bird will not work with the old dishes and will have a footprint that does not go very far south. The only unknown is when this will happen. I sure would not invest in any expensive equipment until the new Bird is operating.

The new bird has been working for about 2 years and is usable in the USA if you change out the lnb to a new 3 head one (been required for receiving the 3rd sat for the last 2 year). A about a $75.00 upgrade and all is well.
I don't know why Shaw didn't upgrade their users for free. When Bell went to their new transmission setup they gave everyone of their users a new satellite dish or more (I received 3) - cheep?

Jcm. Do some googling. The new Bird is not being used yet. Rumors are it will be in April. No one knows whether some content will remain or what will be moved. That is why I think folks should wait until it is up. Or just use a tripod this season.

Ofcourse you are getting the signal. Shaw has not begun the change. They wilbe doing something in 2019. The new Bird is one of the anik satellites. Can I make this any clearer. Changes are coming. You are not on that new bird. Nor isanyone else. Call them and ask.

I don't know what your problem is. Shaw is using 3 satellites and has been for the last 2 years.
There are the 2 old ones and the new one (high def channels 1-32). You need a new LNB which has 3 LNB's in it and your receiver must have a software update (from Shaw).
How can I make it any clearer.

I give up. Most users have already changed their system to the newer satellites. BUT the change that is coming is totally different. The satellite where much of the content will be housed has a footprint that does not cover most of the USA. That is the problem. Some content will probably remain but no one knows what that content will be. Forget about the changes that started in 2017. That is old news. Do some googling and you should find more info. You need to find current info. The news of those changes only started this spring. Please do not reply to my post!

The new Shaw satellite's signal cannot be picked up now in most of the US, only Shaw's signal from the 2 older ones. Shaw says changes will continue thru 2019. The question is when will the 2 older satellite's end service and be replaced by the new type that will also not beam signals to the US. So like Bell, Shaw Direct will end being viewed in the US at some point because the newer and more efficient satellites focus their signal on Canada only. It just not know when this will happen.

I believe that Shaw has a contract with the older satellites till 2022 or 2024. The three satellites are all receivable in Yuma (according to some of my friends). I only had the 2 satellite LNB when I was down there last year and I could receive all transponder on a 60cm dish.
The satellites are slowly failing but the new satellite is also full of transmissions to Canada (Shaw), Greenland and I heard (no proof) Guatamala. Remember these satellites cost $20,000,000+ to develop and launch. The Canadian Government (owners) will try to get every possible use out of them before spending the money to replace them.

I would be surprised if your friend is picking up Anik G1 (the newer 3rd satellite), in Arizona.

We bought the verizon hot spot. They wouldnt sell us an unlimited plan unless we bought the phone package, which came with a two year term. We ended up getting the pay as you go. We got 10 gigs a month for fifty bucks US. As far as tv, we have shaw, but we had to keep refreshing it. As stated, dont mention you are out of country. You might be surprised by how many tv channels you can get with a 20 dollar digital box from walmart. Unlike Canada, the US still has lots of over the air channels. Most rv parks also have cable.
