I have a king dome in motion sat antenna and was wondering about the best way to obtain sat tv signals. I know Dish offers a $24.95 hopper package for RVers that you can cancel any amount of times and restart without a penality. So if you don't stay on the go, you don't pay. Any other offers out there?

I have not seen that kind of a plan available for quite some time from either Dish or Direct. Can you tell me where you got that information or where I might go to find it? This would be a great package for many part time users.

You can also suspend any DIRECTV account for up to 6 months if you are a part-timer. After the 6 months they will automatically turn you back on. Have any questions feel free to see our website or call. We handle a ton of issues with getting RV'ers setup with service.

Bill,
This was just 3 weeks ago speaking to a dish network representative. Direct tv only has the 6 mo subscription suspension.

Interesting, I just talked to several reps as Dish and they knew of no such program. They said the only way was to switch my home service ( I am on cable). They also stated that Dish cannot suspend service for any length of time. you would pay regardless if you used it or not. I am perplexed because 1. I like the service I get from cable for various reasons and 2. we go to places where only Sat service is available and I would only like to pay for it when I am using it and not when the DP is sitting in the driveway.
I was told by a local dish reseller that I could buy the reciever, pay for the installation and pay for the service as I needed it, it is t without a contract and therefore is $39.99 a month. This may be my only option provided there are no other fees for starting and stopping service.

What am I missiing??

Thanks, Mike

Same thing I am missing. I have not been able to find any similar package for Dish and I know DirecTV does not have one.

Mike,
I would call Dish and verify what the installer told you. I know even if you purchase your own receiver Dish charges you a montly fee for the receiver. So I do not see what advantage purchasing your own equipment except you do not have to sign a 24 month commitment to keep the service but, Iam sure all the other Dish requirements are still there. These installers are independent operations and just want to sign you up.

I have DirecTv at home, and I added two units to my account, for the M/H Only 5 bucks a month more, (per box). I have an HR10-250 HD DVR in the main room and just a standard reciever in the bedroom. The HR10-250 recieves all ATSC Digital broadcast TV, In HD I might add, and it has the TiVo DVR service for that too. the two or three months a year I don't use her, it's kinda pointless to turn them off, besides, I might just want to tag along with some snowmobilers. BTW I use my rig up through new years day. Don't like to drink and get a ticket.

Thanks Buck62, I had more phone conversations with both Dish and Direct TV. They did not know of any option for a month to month plan that the local reseller stated to me. But, in taking further with both Dish and Direct, Direct has a vacation plan that lets you pause your service 2 times in a 12 month period with a limit of 6 months within that 12 month period. Dish will let you pause your service as many times as you want, but not to exceed 6 months total within 12 months. Dish will charge $5.00 per month while in the pause state. This is still all confusing and it seems it depend on who you talk to and when..
