Thanks again...
it been awhile i've used this type - You need a Dual LNB 18 for a round disk to connect to the "two coax" SWM 8 then 1 coax to the power injector then 1 coax to the a/b switch - then you should be able to use a Wide Band SWM Splitter

OK...so after spending what seemed like an eternity chatting with AT&T/Direct TV, I decided to add there 8.99 protection plan which entitles me to free receiver upgrades. Easy enough, I just shut down one of three standard Def receivers for a savings of 7.00 so net cost 1.99 a month.

The Rep assured me that I can request the HR-24 or H-24 receivers but I didn't do it just yet. Stand by for this one, he also stated that his
understanding and his supervisors was that SD was not leaving until 2020?? No real surprise but just thought I'd throw it out there. I had him convinced that I had to continue to use the round Dish....hence my receiver choices.

In that regard, since I will go the SWM 8 route, is there a listing of compatible receivers other than the two aforementioned? I guess I should upgrade at least one now so that I can educate myself on the whole process. I actually do still use a couple Round dishes on the house so messing around with an upgraded receiver and SWM switch is possible without climbing onto the MH roof. Just thinking out loud…..

Yes there is a list....Google SatPro.......then on the left side of their web page, scroll till you find the 2 user areas (manuals) for the RV tripod setup they're selling, and open the one for receiver/ tv setup.....it'll tell you which are, and not, compatible.....

Thank you, that worked just fine plus they have some fun stuff to look over!

I think the compatible receivers go back as far as the HR22, but that was a dog compared to the newer models. The model numbers used to go up as new ones were introduced, but DTV changed that when they designated the Genie II as the HS17. All receivers with model numbers >24 are SWM-only.

Was under the impression that the H-25 on up are SWM only..

That's what he meant by ">24"

As in models "greater than the H/HR24"

Prior to the existence of the "HS17" of course.

As stated in my Post #26 I have an R22-100 DVR (and Joel is correct about it being a dog) that I was using for SD with an 18" round dish on a tripod. This is a receiver for SD service that can be configured to work as HD also. It required a B-band converter to work and was a hassle to set up in the coach. I decided not to wait until DirecTv makes the change and found a local retailer to get a new Slimline3 dish on my tripod for the RV. It came with both the required SWM multi-switch and power inserter. The B-band converter is now gone and the SWM multi-switch and power inserter are permanently installed in the coach so set up is very simple since my dish configuration matches my home's setup. After reading the aiming procedure for the Slimline dish I was concerned whether I could do it with the simple signal meter I already had. I'm happy to say the my concerns were unfounded since aiming the 3LNB dish is almost as simple as the round 18" dish was and I get all my channels plus home locals everywhere I've been within 250 mile of home. My home has a Genie DVR and 2 mini-Genies so all I give up in the RV is the Whole House DVR feature provided with the Genie DVR. I think I'm ready for whatever DirecTv decides to do.

Okay so I have read thru all the post and now I just need some clarification. I currently have a HR24 and a tripod mounted sl3 swm. I use on my travel trailer. I am really wanting to make it easier to setup and keep as many channels as possible. I know I can get the Winegard travlr but am looking for cheaper options. I like having HD channels and would like to keep them if possible. I want to get a g2 or G3 but want it to work after they stop the SD signal. If my option is only to stay with current equipment can any recommend a signal meter to help with dish pointing as of now it takes me about 30 minutes each time.

The G2/G3 should work fine after the changeover. The 101 satellite will carry all the major channels and they will be in HD. Even using a tripod should be easier because you only have to shoot for 101 unless you're trying to get a local channel on 99 or 103. It's not clear yet what channels will be on 119.

Okay so I need a little more help doc. I picked up a g2 used from a person I know. They through in a swm power inserter, 8 way and splitter. 1: do I need all that to run my hr24? Will my Dvr still work with single wire coming from dome or is that what the second port is for on dome and on receiver?

You can operate the HR24 in either Multiswitch or SWM modes. If you use Multiswitch you don't need that extra "stuff" but you do need a second coax fro the G2 to the receiver if you want to be able to watch one channel and record a second one (or record two channels at the same time).

Alternatively, connect both coax's coming from the G2 to the SWM8 and then run a single coax to the power inserter and then on to the receiver. Set the receiver to SWM configuration and it will be able to use its two tuners at the same time with only a single coax connected.

There are diagrams for how to do this here: https://docplayer.net/23804085-Guide...-antennas.html

Seems this leaked document by KING Dome satellite systems corroborates the KVH one as to what will eventually happen to Ku 101w.

But somewhat surprisingly details a much longer period for the SD transition (officially called the "Orbital Slot Consolidation Project" by DIRECTV) to complete in 1st or 2nd quarter of 2021.Ku-Antenna_KING_03.2019.pdf

Edit: Sorry, but it appears my upload of the document failed. If so try the link here ...
